No contact post interwiew

    I've had couple of interviews and just wondered is now the norm not to hear anything back. One was three weeks ago and said would be in touch in couple of weeks and two other were supposed to contact me yesterday. Do I just assume I've been unsuccessful?

    I had an interview with Irish water last year, never heard back. Also had one with a project management company and even after contacting the HR manager and being told I'd be contacted by an interviewer , I wasn't.
    So yes..its common.

    I had 5 interviews in the past 3 years.
    2 resulted in jobs, 1 rejection phonecall, and 2 didn't bother calling me after.
    If you really want the job you might want to chase them up with a phonecall in another week. Generally though, just assume you're unsuccessful and keep looking.

    It does unfortunately happen, and it's something which I find extremely unprofessional. There is simply no excuse for reneging on a commitment to give feedback. In my opinion you most likely do not want to work for such an outfit in the first place.

    Don't assume it just yet! You just might not be top of the list and they've offered it to the person who is and they are awaiting their response. If they turn it down, they'll move to the next person.

    It's quite common not to hear anything back from job applications but if you've been interviewed, you should at least be contacted either by phone or letter, but it's often not the case. And rarely you hear back when they say they will let you know, which is very annoying!!

    I think this is rubbish advice to be honest. What's wrong with a follow-up phone call or email?

    It obviously depends very much on industry, type of role etc., but at the end of the day it may simply boil down to the hiring manager having failed to make a decision, or a HR administrator failing to act on a decision for whatever reason.

    Whatever the reason for lack of contact, a follow up call will serve as a gentle reminder that you are there and awaiting a response.
