Looking at images/replays: yes, definitely. Only a matter of how long he'll be out for.

Edit: here's an image, it's not pleasant though, don't look if you're screamish!

    Feck, is that real??

Yeah, there's worse pictures believe it or not. Definitely a serious injury.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Gutted for him. He looked like one of united's best players this year. Going by that pic it could be career threatening.

Yeah it's a huge blow for him. Think career threatening is a bit much but his season could well be over.

Hard to believe Moreno didn't see red there . And then they talk about protecting the players' physical integrity ...

Breaks are very rarely career ending these days.
Horrible images though... images of Dinny Irwin away to PSV come flashing back.

Agreed, I've heard people say it wasn't malicious, and that he got the ball with his other foot but that doesn't wash with me. Horrible tackle.

It wasn't really a bad challenge tbh. Leg just got caught in the wrong place

Malicious or not, intentional or not, it was a bad foul that turned dangerous for Shaw (and it really was since he got a broken leg). It should be an automatic red.

Rolland Courbis, a French coach that gets a lot of media airplay (he's good for a pun) generally tells a little story of his own about these situation. "If you take your gun and shoot someone but miss him, what the judge gonna say? Nah it's OK, he missed him, he's free to go". I don't think so. :p...

I suppose but he was visibly distraught after making the tackle, no malice at all, although you're probably right that if its dangerous enough to break his leg then it's dangerous enough for a red card

He's coming with speed from the side and he shears Shaw's legs with his left leg. Straight red for me. Now he may have been caught in his momentum, it may have turned horribly bad compared to what he meant to do (just play the ball) and without really knowing I would not blame him exaggerately about it but should be red nonetheless. Ah just saw your previous post with which I fully agree ;).

And a penalty ! Corner given
And ya man scored the equalizer in the injury time added on for Shaws treatment

Don't know was it that bad. Heavy tackle and shaw was unlucky

He made a dangerous tackle on Young later in the game.

Another day and Shaw isn't unlucky to get his leg tangled then this tackle wouldn't raise an eyebrow imo, just bang unlucky really, yes it was meaty but plenty of them happen in every game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,022 ✭✭✭jamesbere

It was a last ditch tackle and with the speed shaw was going at and considering he caught his standing leg just when shaws full weight was on that leg resulted in the break.

Just really unlucky, how many times would you see that type of tackle in any match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,607 ✭✭✭patmac

Sad for Shaw, could be without Pedro and Kun as well for the weekend lots of mulling over to do.

Correct decision imo, a good strong tackle that ended in a very unfortunate/unlucky injury. I say that as a United fan, the lad can't control his trailing leg and he got the ball.

The more I look at it the worse it gets. Should have been a red. Shaw was unlucky getting tangled, but it should have been a red.

Got Shaw in this GW for 5.6M
Would you take a -4 this week or wait for next GW?

You might squeak by till GW 7 kicks off without him losing value. I'd review it on Friday afternoon/evening when we know more.

If you think he won't drop before the deadline, wait, he's 21.3% to a drop at the moment.
In a similar situation, free transfer used, Shaw to move on.

Anyone else keeping an eye on Gabriel? 4.9m and playing very well, could well keep Mert out of the team even when he is fit

I wouldn't. Just pay 0.6m more Bellerin or Monreal
