Ah there is a bit of merit in them getting their boobs out, we've big parades with lads waving around giant willies and what not but a woman can't walk around with her boobs out, they are oppressed.

How come Irish women haven't caught on to this topless protesting lark? It's not like they've nothing to protest about. I might actually pay attention to them if they did.

Irish women can kick their own tits.

I'm stealing this comment from that article because it makes so much sense (I'm not a 1960's feminist woman though :o )

    Helen Pritchard · LSU
Baby boomer hippie feminist here: To Quote: AUGGGHHHH!!! These women ARE NOT feminists, they are exhibitionists who are not capable of discerning between effective vs sensational, . Who in their right mind, male or female, thinks their demonstration will effect social change ? If anything, this ridiculousness reinforces the steriotypical notion that females are irrational so need to be controlled by the superior male; in this case, they proved the point for the enemy and made us (who were on the front-lines in the 60's) cringe!!!!!!!

I would like to know exactly what was being discussed at this conference.

If it was being discussed "whether wives should be beaten or not" then I am in full support of these women as they managed to highlight to the world that this topic can still up for debate in a mosque in France in 2015.

Would you have the same reaction if a man took off his t-shirt in front of your child?

Getting your tits out to protest doesn't make any sort of point. It's just... getting your tits out. You can't just do it randomly in a free society like Ireland either so what's the point in doing it to protest hardline Islam?

I'd be more concerned that the lads were having a little conference on whether "wives should be beaten or not" than someone from FEMEN gatecrashing it with their tits on display.

You're missing the point -the protesters (and everybody else) know they are never going to get their point across to religious fanatics -by getting their tits out they're simply standing in the face of patriarchal oppression and making them really really angry, which attracts more attention than witty chants or wise slogans on posters ever would.

Well I'm not more concerned about Femen's stunt - the conference subject matter is obviously more of a concern; I was just querying what the logic of protesting in that manner was.

What other manner would have got the worlds attention that in 2015 in France a prominent religious grouping is discussing whether it is okay for men to beat their wives?

Fair play to those women.i normally find these topless protests somewhat ridiculous but it seems they were dealing with a right bunch of intolerant scumbags here.the skinny rats kicking them on the floor.real big men.video evidence should be turned over to police and the men prosecuted.

The stunt did, to be fair to it, highlight the existence of a 'should wives be beaten' conference that I previously had no idea existed.

It did achieve that, at least.

Very wrong form of protest. Looks more like a publicity stunt. What was the reason for this ''protest'' anyway and what was suppose to be and outcome after this?

We now all know that this conference exists and they tried to demonstrate to the people holding the conference that they are not owned by them. So it was successful on all fronts.

They also showed that they aren't willing to tolerate intolerance like a lot of the Western World.

Can you imagine the reaction if they did this at a Christian event and were kicked on the floor? There would be all kinds of talk of excessive force. Instead it's a muslim event so that part of the story barely gets mentioned.

I don't like seeing women get punched and kicked like that - turns my stomach.

I do like the idea of topless protests though and I think we should have that sort of thing here - I might even become more political.

    Why ?

Their just boobs. If it would somehow mentally harmed your kid then you probably raised them wrong.

Placards? Filming it on smartphone? Surely you don't think there's just one way, and that it would be so difficult to raise awareness of this in this communications saturated society?

That is their preferred modus operandi. It helps gain attention to their cause. Certainly did in this case.

That's the annoying thing about living in a society that values free expression etc.

You have to tolerate the free speech of knob-ends too.

You could say it is quite hopeful that Islam is openly discussing the issue of wife beating. Has anyone considered this may have been an attempt to stop it? I'd like to know more about this 'conference' before jumping on the bandwagon of 'all muslims are beating their wives'. Please remember there are groups all over Ireland too that are full of wife beaters we are trying to re-educate.

Not saying this is the case but everyone seems very quick to judge here. I doubt very much this was arranged to encourage beating 'er indoors. Surely?

The women protesting were apparently from Muslim families so let's not have a thread where all muslims are blamed for the few again.

Many of these events are protested / filmed and don't get the public traction they deserve.

This one did with the help of those 2 women.

The Imam was addressing the question of whether women should be beaten or not and said that as Mohammed didn't beat women, the men shouldn't do it as well.

Seems they made their protest during the wrong side of the debate. Disrupted the against side.

    Timing ladies!

Oh well if Muhammad didn't do it!

    They really are delusional.

It's a tiger's natural instinct to eat people.it's not a man's natural instinct to kick a woman in the stomach. These men are a disgrace and I'd love to see them done for assault.

No, just cultural practices and outlooks that involve coercion, violence and subjugation.

So if I beat you up today, that's ok as long as I say it's my culture and outlook? Therefore you have to tolerate it.

It's also my culture and outlook that you don't fight back by the way.

look I'm not saying I agree with the way they acted but when they've been raised and developed in an environment where thats the norm, two girls jumping on stage with their tits out isn't gonna make them think:''maybe I shouldn't beat women'', understand I'm not saying the way they reacted is right by any accounts, I'm just stating that to perform such an act, the two girls involved must be completely delusional or have incredibly reduced mental capacity! You just don't jump on a stage at a Muslim Conference and expect them to react any way but violently, especially when they're supposedly protesting Muslim violence against women! You don't stick your hand in a fire and then later wonder why its sore....
