    Don't forget Sligo's Real Tubber.

Real Sociedad means Royal Society (which is an epic name).

not so long ago my girlfriend said she had to go to an eye and ear specialist, but her saying this quickly in one sentence to me sounded like eyeineer (like engineer) it had me stumped for a good while.

Yeah, Dubs call the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital the "die ah neer".

Didn't cop it for a while.

That the film Legally Blonde's title was a play on the term Legally Blind.
Never dawned on me before. Ironically, I have blonde hair.

Yep, I grew up in Dublin and, until I was about 20, I thought an "ioneer" was a type of medical professional ("My doctor's referred me to the ioneer"/"she went to the ioneer to get that seen to").

I don't actually know what I thought an ioneer did, but it wasn't til I saw it written on my grandad's appointment card that I copped on. Made a lot more sense :pac:

So, my mate Mark down the chipper isn't actually a proper inventor of stuff. I'll have the bastard.

100% of the #1 votes are counted after a general election. After that only random samples of the #2, #3, etc.. are looked for the second, third and subsequent counts until everyone is elected.

Not sure how obvious, but only after a bit of browsing around on Google Maps today did I realise that Reykjavik is on the West of Iceland. I always thought it was South East-ish as if you'd reach it if you went on a straight line up from the rest of Europe, when it's actually around the other side altogether.

Wasn't that the great advantage of the E-voting machines- could almost instantly give the most accurate count for the transfers - almost brilliant (except they weren't quite)

Complete disasters. No physical security. About the only good thing was the hardware design, 1980's home computers and not the good ones, was so old that it could be understood by some reviewing the design. People have been able to detect which way you voted on some evoting machines by electronically eavesdropping. The Diebold ones are truly scary. Using an old version of Microsoft Access and trivial checksums. And even then memory cards went missing.

Would be funny if multi-billion contracts didn't depend on the outcome of elections. Compete waste of money.

Love election night, and the results coming in and watching the mighty falling especially when there's a recount.

I read an article shortly after the voting machines were parked - I'm not sure if I recall all the details correctly, but I seem to remember that some Dutch students were able to quite easily reprogram one of the machine to play tic-tac-toe, or maybe it was battleship. It's not something that would fill you with confidence... :/

Having said that, we might get a better outcome if elections were settled with battles of noughts and crosses.

to prevent a smelly bathroom after taking a dump, as soon as youve made the drop; squat up(to avoid getting wet) and flush immediately, then squat back down in case of round 2.

Not sure if this is obvious -
but this guy from rules of engagement, and this girl are brother and sister, and the children of this actress.

I'm not sure which part of that I was more surprised by.

Fat Tony from The Simpson's and Agent Rossi from Criminal Minds are the same person!! My two favorite telly programmes and I never noticed until it was pointed out to me today. I hang my head in shame.

Wow. I knew about Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn, but I had absolutely no idea about Oliver Hudson. Impressive. Thanks for that. :)
