Always worth a watch and you might learn something. I found the spark test with the Jag XJ Coupe interesting. It shows people that enjoy working on cars that they can do it and not lose money, even make a small bit. It's not designed to show a great business oppurtunity.

It's an hour long program, they can't fit in 25 minutes of sledging and swearing to get a balljoint bet out.

Yeh i feel the same i havent worked as a mechanic in overn ten year now but its a nice easy watch program that constantly bring back memories that i like.

Brewer dont bother me his what he is ive seen worse.

I never realised they built 4x4 panda's at all let alone back then, they may be a fiat by they were a decent car, pity about the paint job on last night's program though.rolling on car paint is awful.

Yhh they were pretty popular just didnt have much power even with the uno fire engine they didnt have much to drive all four wheels. The new generation panda has a 4x4 variant too but i have no experience of them.

what are the opinions of the conversion?the green is a really nice colour, the face of the car is not what I would normally be used to,is that a specific tyoe for the dutch market of the time?

They sure are and it ruined the look of the escort in my opinion.

she wasn't a real rs2000 though but it was as near the real thing as you could get,do you think that brewer is typecast in that role now or could the show survive if one of say.............. the former top gear trio were to present it?

Yes, there is a good feature on it in the Wheeler Dealers Haynes manual.

I know but the poster questioned whether it was a Dutch market thing and I was just stating that it wasn't :D

I've wondered if real world mechanics watch the show in disbelief as Edd cleans and paints yet another component that will never be seen again, just because it's good practice.

My brother is a mechanic and he is like that. When he is at a car nothing goes untouched. I got him to rebuild the engine of my DC2 and there wasn't a clip that wasn't new or a bolt that wasn't polished.

Some mechanics are hatchet merchants but alot aren't.

I have to say i like the show but i echo other peoples comments here, Mike is fairly annoying, his parts always come across as contrived.

A great show, my favourite being the black bmw m5.
Ed is brilliant, he can do anything to a car. Mike is annoying with his "old out yerrand"

It's on twice today on Quest. 2pm is a Saab 900 Turbo and 5pm is a Golf MK1 GTI.

My favourite was the Morris Minor traveller and how they sourced the wooden "frame" from a specialist. Like a previous poster I was surprised that even though they film a "sale," this moggie was on eBay for a while after the programme. Anyway, timer set for 5pm for the one with the Golf.

Just because a mechanic doesnt change every nut and bolt or shine and paint parts doesnt mean they are a hatchet mechanic infairness.

There is a difference in a mechanic fixing a car and doing it for a living and under time constraints and then you have a mechanic doing restoration as a hobby or for a customer.

Could you imagine the look on a customers face if you told him 4 hours of the labour was for painting a gearbox and suspension parts.

I worked in the trade when i was younger for a good few years as mechanic and the pressure you be under most of time to get a job done. where as now if im doing stuff on my own car at home here id have everything on it perfect.

I like Brewer. I guess, like all shows, it needs an element of showbiz.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 853 ✭✭✭edburg

Great show, Brewer in old ones was bit annoying but he seems to mellowed on camera now and find him pretty good at breaking up show.

I met him at a car show some 10 years ago and he was doing something for a nothing show on likes of motors tv and he had no clue what he was talking about going through some of the cars. Also watched them both at classic car show at NEC doing a green Mini estate and Brewer was ruining it butting in on Edd in middle of something with non related sales crap, wanted to throw a bottle of water at him and tell him to bugger off at times :pac: :pac:

yh an evo would be nice,i remember the impreza they had on it but I was disappointed with it to be honest,i can think of loads of cars that would be good to have on the show but some of those would only be targeted at specific people otherwisae they will be difficult to sell, look at the problems they had shifting the Renault Alpine for example,i wonder what they could do with a Honda civic from the 87-02 generations! :D
