New Line connection with Eircom then switch to Sky?

Okay this is going south pretty quickly so I'm looking for some advice on my next move from people with experience of this situation.

I live in a rural location so I've been on the NBS for the past few years. We bought the house from new and although the comms cabling in the house was complete we never had a phone line installed.

Sky have been the choice of TV provider (via dish) for years. No problems there.

Made the decision to switch to a wired BB solution over the summer. My preferred option was to get a complete package from Sky (cheaper) but I need the line connection which only Eircom can provide. I was and am realistic about the speeds I can expect, reliability being the key as the mobile BB we had from 3 varied and t

So a phoneline was ordered on the basis of an 18 on the contract with Eircom. Plan was to switch to Sky during the 14 day cooling off period. Eircom withheld the UAN for 7 days, delaying the switch and now the Sky takeover won't happen for another 10 days.

This means that by the time the Sky switch happens, I'll be tied into the 18 month contract with Eircom, meaning I'll potentially owe them €500-ish in early termination "fees".

So I spoke to Sky this morning, to see if they could speed things up but obviously they are on Eircom's timetable who aren't likely to rush through this switch.

Looks like I have 2 choices:

    1. Cancel Eircom contract now before cooling off period expires. This will mean no wired BB for around 2 months from Eircom or Sky but at least I have a physical phone connection to the house to use with another provider in the future.
    2. Wait for the switch to Sky to happen and then either stick with Sky and ignore the inevitable threatening letters from Eircom or switch back to Eircom/cancel Sky and continue to use Sky for TV only for the next 18 months and switch to them for the BB.

I've spoken to Comreg regards the delay in the giving over of the UAN. Also been on to the CCPC fro advice. They all seem a bit toothless.

    Are there any other options?

Was this a really stupid idea from the get go?

    Will it ever stop raining?

Appreciate any suggestions in advance, thanks!

Should have ordered with vodafone. Sky wont do line provides, only transfers. Theyre the ones causing you this hassle.

Your UAN is on the paperwork you receive from eircom /account number, though I'm not sure you switching within the 14 days will mean you are using your cooling off as such. Eircom are can be weird about this. I've went through all of this so pm me if you wish

Thanks for this. However, Sky managed to get the line within seemingly record time, so the switch was done yesterday. Once sky was active I called Eircom/Eir and cancelled the contract as per the T&Cs, with a day still to go on the cooling off period. Made sure rep on phone said for the benefit of the recording that there would be no ETCs.
So all good I think. Let's see what happens. I can't believe it's done at that...
