I really don't agree. We're doing this long enough to know that the extraordinary low returns from the big hitters is variance. Its at odds with the odds so to speak and if we keep backing the guy who's 2/1 to score over the guy who is 8/1 we will come good.

Are we really going to propose that because of the statistical variance to date we are going to decide everything we know is suddenly wrong and that captaining a defender is suddenly the way to go!? Kolarov with his attacking threat and bonuses in a performing defence has probably forced himself into Baines / Ivan punt territory for an odd captaincy but captaining defenders is not a good idea folks. Its just not.

Aguero came back from an international break trip to Beijing and Hong Kong last year to stick a heap of goals past Spurs. Suarez landed back very late fron Uruguay the season before and ripped it up in the following game. Sanchez was extremely unlucky not to have 2 goals at least yesterday.

My point was and is that Kompany (who most of us as "serious" players wouldnt even consider owning over Kolarov) was the highest captain in the top 1k just shows further tht the top 1k is a weird place right now and composed of rookie or "casual" managers. I'd wager some of them haven't changed their captain or possibly their team since gw1.

Captaining Kompany over Sanchez or Aguero was not a considered act of genuis. It was dumb luck that would fail 9 times out of 10.

You missed my point. I responded to the part I bolded in your previous post "you really have to laugh" (at (C)ing Kompany).

I would almost never captain a def myself (I think I actually never did). Because I trust mids & forwards to get me more points. Because statistically speaking, it's a gamble I'm not inclined to take (if Aguero had scored 3 yesterday the non Aguero captainers would have lost a lot more points on most players than the opposite scenario that actually happened).

But, you can't just wipe out the current short-term context and mock people not playing like we do here. Particulalry that we're not talking about captaining a one-week wonder. Kompany is the safest City def. I guess casuals don't know that Kolarov is nailed now because of Clichy injury. He's the second highest scorer in the game right now. On the other hand, Aguero only scored once. You mentioned him & Suarez getting great FPL returns after a late comeback from international duty. I'd like to see the stats about these late comebacks over a 20+ games, not 2. Then, Silva was injured, KDB not guaranteed to start and any casuals prob didn't know about him at all. So the 2 big hitters options were Yaya & Sanchez.

I know I'm just being an extreme devil's advocate here and again I personally would never captain Kompany but I don't think he's the kind of captain we're entitled to laugh at for the current GW ;).

Have Chadli and Davies. No confidence in them whatsoever. They're on the chop list now I think.

Dont think there is any value in the spurs team. Defoe is worth a third striker spot but he is very frustrating, missed a couple of solid chances already

Defoe is definitely the most dangerous player here, Kane could learn a lot from his movement. He (Defoe) should have had a penalty just now but didn't go down.
    Sunderland are defending quite well

I've got a feeling in my waters that Harry Kane is going to explode in a big way one of these games. Maybe the Europa League will even help things.

I have nothing whatsoever to base this on though :)

Son is good at whipping the ball in at set-pieces so far! Still wouldn't be thinking about buying any Sunderland or Spurs players at the moment, even though I did have Defoe and Kane at the start of the season!

O'Shea on my bench so fully expecting a cleanie and bonus points. Bright side would be that it might stave off a price drop.

Kane on his last 45 minutes in my team barring a massive turnaround

Defoe has been the best player on the pitch by some distance yet he's got the worst bps of anyone (-1)
    I hate the bps system:o

Hows Toivonen looked lads? I'm assuming quite uninspiring given how little's been posted about the game.

A wonderfully pointless goal to kill the Sunderland clean sheet. :D
