Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Get hangers with the clips because you can keep of pair of number 1s hanging on them and not have to iron them for a few weeks if you hang them right.

Also cheap ironing board will do rightly!

Also got my pack, it's all official now! I'm bringing a family member yes! Taking a weekend to chill out/celebrate then getting studying / shaking up the gym schedule =) I'm still altering between massively excited or else nervous as lol but definitely looking forward to the challenge! It'll be hard work but we'll step up!

When do we get the online learning info? The more I think about it the more petrified I am of the fitness elements. I am pretty sure a lot of the p.e sessions are outdoors and we are going into this in the winter! I'm happy enough in the gym but outside running in the freezing cold always has me so wheezy

I think on-line learning reopens around the time of induction for the additional module/s.

I wouldn't worry about the cold, we'll probably be sweatin' buckets from the exertion.

  • Registered Users Posts: 508 ✭✭✭.S.

Yep think it opens after induction, I have some notes from last time jotted down so I'm gunna look over them when I can.
Agreed, might be cold but I've no doubt the pti's will have us warmed up rightly!

Q for yas.. Should we be returning the acceptance form special delivery? I don't want mine going astray..

We need car insurance with business cover?! Guess I'll have to get that added on. Will it set me back much? Also does all our stationary have to be plain? Must say I made my online learning notes in a very girlie notebook.

  • Registered Users Posts: 101 ✭✭The keyboard warrior

Yes. It's a must - but I think it's social, domestic, pleasure (sdp) that is required; provided it states that you can take it to and from a place of work.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18 dementedfairy8

I have sdp with going to and from a place of work but the induction pack states business cover which is different.

  • Registered Users Posts: 101 ✭✭The keyboard warrior

You might be right - I know the emphasis is on to and from your place of work.

SDP&C is only for a single place of work, is it not? Perhaps as training may take place across various stations then we have to have business use?

I might phone through and ask tomorrow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 36 Ruffle

It does have to cover business use specifically, my spouse is also in the job and I know for sure that's the cover we need. It does cost a bit more but not a huge amount

  • Registered Users Posts: 101 ✭✭The keyboard warrior

What about the pca requirement for the end of training?

-Is it still 3.54 and 26kg

-Do they expect us to improve on the above, and by how much

I think by the end of training we will be at that point anyway by the sounds of things.

Little sleep, constant learning and killer P.E sessions - what's not to love :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 508 ✭✭✭.S.

Apparently you don't do the driving course until you're stationed now so might not need business cover until then. I'll prob ask at induction just, still plenty of time to get cover between then and GV.

Coolio. I've got a good gap between leaving my job and us going in. I'll be spending it doing online learning and going to the gym.

Well done to you guys, quick question, roughly how long has it been since you did your medicals?

It varies stingray. Vetting is key at the waiting stage. Some people had their medicals just two weeks before calls other people have been waiting two months because their vetting took so long to clear. Others like me had everything clear including vetting and missed out on a call because the intake was full.
Calls tend to go out every 5 weeks so should hopefully be some more calls in about 4 weeks time!

My score was 70-72 and I am yet to have my medical. I think there is someone else on here who is ahead of me as well, but is on a lower/the same score. Why would they not process us all in order?

Did you have a resit for your PCA? When did you do your PCA? My score is 70-72 (higher end) Had my PCA end July and passed vetting an medical too. Didn't get the call last week. The lowest score I know of to get the call is 72.

No, I only had my PCA last week and passed it well. Medical is at the end of September.

    Sent you a PM.

Also, take with a pinch of salt when people are posting their AC scores!

Hey all, also got the call but only recently as I was out of the country, couldn't be happier! really looking forward to getting started.

I See people on here talking about business insurance, hanger types and Ironing boards?!

Is there a kit list somewhere?

There's a bit of information in the induction pack and then I think there will be more of a "kit list" online after the induction weekend. There's also a Garnerville post on here where people have suggested things to buy.

I went suit shopping today.. Fairly made it all feel real! Be interesting to see what else is on their list

I'm not at all organised yet, hoping the induction weekend will give me a realistic list Of things I need to buy. Also - what are all you ladies wearing to the induction weekend? I don't want to have to go out and buy something just for that, I wear a uniform in work so I've little in the way of business wear

I have a suit or two from interviews, not expensive but the one that fits best is navy with a small pinstripe. Wonder would that be acceptable?

  • Registered Users Posts: 508 ✭✭✭.S.

You and me both Catdog, I'm also hoping induction will help me prepare! I got a trouser suit / couple new blouses/shirts at the weekend so just wearing that, think it's best to aim for smart / business wear

  • Registered Users Posts: 313 ✭✭Catdog33

I remember during last campaign some were saying that they had to bring a laptop/ tablet. Is that still the case? My
Laptop is ancient and got it back when I started Uni! I have an iPad but it's not fresh anymore either, being about 3 years old. So I'd like to go in with something that works if it's required!

  • Registered Users Posts: 508 ✭✭✭.S.

I remember that being said too. I had to get a new laptop there as my old one died, but it's something to ask at induction. Only just seen your other post, interview / pinstripe suit sounds grand to me =)

Congrats Catdog!!!! And thanks for bringing back the sicky feeling for me! just kidding, so pleased for you, and hopeful for myself as we did PCA together I think x
