Only 2 injuries is quite good for a slide evacuation like that. Well done everyone involved.

What an absolute stroke of luck that didn't happen over the Atlantic! Great to see everyone walk away from what could have been a very nasty incident.

My guess here on the engine fire would be a faulty stud pipe that leaked oil.

As the BA B777 incident is no longer on FR24. lets all move our discussion of it to the relevant thread please.

Probably not the right thread but I was on the Air Canada flight from Toronto into Dublin this morning and it didn't go out over the Irish sea before coming back into land, but rather went straight in over Enfield - is this normal at that hour of the morning?

Whenever I look on FR24 during the day 99% of the time they head out over the Irish Sea except if weather doesn't allow.

It would have been landing on a different runway direction. This is mainly assigned taking into account wind direction. The runway direction you describe of coming back in over the Irish sea is by far the most common in use, 28.

With an easterly wind as there is now, planes land in on RWY10 as you did and take off over the Irish Sea. Predominantly the wind in Ireland is westerly, therefore most of the time operations are landing over the Irish sea on RWY28

Land onto RWY34 and you will be flying directly over Dublin City Centre!

Not a clue. Seems a bit of a distance for anything other than scraping/sale.

It just flew over my house, I wasn't quick enough to get the camera though :(
An unusual visitor to these parts (as are 340s in general)

I think you're right. It's in an all white scheme with nothing other than reg markings!

MSN 32, from 1994. Pretty old for an Airbus.

According to my Aero Weather app, Palmero is experiencing a wind of 92knots.

Which of course it's not, as I doubt there would be anything available to measure the wind if that wind was present.

So many laser attacks in last week or so.

In other news, Coastguard Heli EI-ICD is out with the Stena Adventurer in the Irish Sea.
