I don't see any T&Cs for the fiber service. Cannot see the contract length anywhere. Is it 12/18 or 24 months?

€87 for a home sure is steep. It is a premium product though and it's fair that they should charge a premium for it. I reckon few will sign up at that price. Hopefully the other operators will price it more sensibly, as €87 is about €20 too high.

I do not appreciate internet service providers constantly being underhanded about the costs. A very big BOLD €30 followed by a €87 per month thereafter will catch people out. I don't like this behavior as much as I detest ISP's inability to understand the word "unlimited".

how did you get that!!! I checked it but... it switches me to efibre!! very clever. Is it live?

In fairness, you'd want to be pretty blind / stupid to miss that one on Eircom's page there. And again, in fairness, Eircom's unlimited is exactly that.

The thing that annoys me more is that they are listing towns that it's available in but I've tried a few numbers here in Ennis and none of them are eligible.

I know some older people who got caught by that sort of carry on. My granny for one. People like us on this site are unlikely to get caught.

I've tried numbers in the town's I'm familiar with as well and none worked either. We would nearly need to start another mapping project for FTTH! :|

I can't see how to access that ultrafast page from the Eircom site so I'm wondering if it's just a test page at the moment?

Found one! Bishopscourt at the top of Watery Road is enabled. Which is very galling as I'm at the bottom of Watery road and not showing as enabled.....

Roll on Siro!!! The sooner the better. eircom's pricing structure appears steep but we will need to wait on Siro to see a decent comparison. Personally I would prefer to go with eircom. I'm sure my €97 a month for 1Gb + Phone would be managable.

Good luck to them selling this product in some of the areas they have provisioned around me here in Glencar/Ballboe, even at €67 per month they will be hard pressed to get even a minimum of takers.

The new fibre passes no more than 15 -20 meters from my pole but I'm out of the loop. Very pissed:mad::mad:

Prices are in line with what I expected.

Lucky they aren't targeting UPC areas, these prices don't look very competitive with UPC. 240Mbps for €45 versus 150Mbps for €67 or even 300Mbps for €75.

Obviously UPC currently has no answer to 1Gbps, but then I expect it is too expensive for most residential users. On the other hand it could be quiet attractive for small to medium sized businesses.

These prices look more like they are designed to make as much money as possible in areas where Eircom has no competition.

Will be interesting to see what SIRO's pricing looks like. I'd expect price reductions once you end up with Eircom FTTH competing with SIRO and UPC in the same areas.

My address is suitable but they want to bundle a phone in with every bundle. I am only after getting rid of the phone.

I don't blame Eircom at all for trying to get the max return in areas with no competition. It's natural and nobody is forced to take the product. If nobody takes it, the price will fall. The market will ultimately decide the price, not Eircom.

surprised they are not using eircode to identify addresses.

Nobody will use it, it costs 5 grand a year

Considering other operators can sell it cheaper based on the very good wholesale price we should hopefully get some decent pricing soon.

Does anyone know if Vodafone specifically, are going to resell Eircom's FTTH?

I would say they will for areas their 'SIRO - ESB/Vodafone' service either doesn't cover or they decide not to cover as Eircom gets their first

The only use of that would be for branding when they drop the com in their name ;)

I tried my number but it brought me to an efibre page, much sad.

87's a bit steep anyway right now, I'll give competition a go first.

Eircom already have their own system for identifying addresses - your phone number.

Whoop whoop I can get it:)

problem is that I have 6 months left on a Vodafone Fttc contract :(

Need to see what out will cost me to break it. I enquired last week and they reckon it could be a couple of hundred. Unless VF are going to resell the Eircom line

Initial rollout compare suggests some apparant duplication, but only for Carrigaline (Siro build starts next month), Castlebar, Tralee, Cavan, Letterkenny, Sligo, and Wexford. eircoms first rollout towns add Drogheda, Ennis, Kilkenny, Naas, Greystones, Douglas and Sandyford. Siro add Dundalk (build ongoing), along with Westport and Navan.

Carrigaline appears to be the only town presently where both services will be provided in tandem, to start with.

    Interesting times ahead.

€87 per month regular price for 1Gb/s
    €75 - 300Mb/s
    €67 - 150Mb/s
(€30 per month for the first 4 months in all cases).

prices seem a little high considering the wholesale prices but they may be covering some of the install costs there - also it only seems to be possible to order it with a phone service, not as broadband only. For regular eFibre Vodafone are cheaper but we'll have to wait and see if they decide to resell this as they are launching their own FTTH (as Siro) shortly.

I think for the extra e20 a month you would have to go 1000mb I know it adds up but I think you would feel that you would be missing out and it would be at the back of your mind

Checked the ultrafast page and it says Carrigaline is live. Tried the line-checker and looks like I'm still stuck on eVDSL :(

I took around 40 numbers from the phone book in various areas of Ennis and only found one that said it was available. Seems a very strange rollout when almost no one can actually get it! Is this all a load of rubbish from Eircom? Are they just rolling out tiny sections of each town to say they have enabled FTTH in those places so they can get a grant or something??

I pre-registered and haven't had any communications except those two emails that the whole country seemed to get irrespective of location.

Same here. typed in a load of addresses in Ennis. Only place I could find was bishopscourt.

Wouldn't mind but iv a hole dug up in the hall from moving a radiator a month ago and I want to run the fibre across before I fill it back in.

Called Eircom no TV bundles atm with Ultrsfast the rep is going to email me back with more deals if they are availbale. I realy want to get rid of Sky even more now as I called them to see if I was in contract and I' not ;) but when explaining why I might want to cancel the rep tried to convince me that there is no such thing as 1000mb down  "I hate to bring you bad news but there is no such thing as 1000mb down" these sky peeps hate you leaving dont they.

What is the Eircom eVision TV package like anyway, I heard it can be hit and miss and its no Sky.

On another note I discovered that I have nearly ten months left with Vodafone and to exit the contract it would cost me nealry 500 euros:eek: this makes me sad.....I cannot and will not wait nearly another year. I am in a very lucky position to have it available and I owe to to God and country to get it.

What you will find is yes they will only be rolling out to only a certain number of estates mainly the newer ones where the houses have good underground infrastucture. This is becauses they can easly pull the fibre to the nearest manhole and then to your front door. They wont be installing it as far as know to houses where you get your phone line from a pole. ESB and Vodafone are doing it this way

But then you would have to ask yourself if you actually need it and would you see any real world difference?

I know that when I went from 120Mb/s to 200Mb/s to 240Mb/s on UPC, to be honest I didn't really notice any real world difference and I'm a heavy user!

I only upgraded with UPC as they offered the higher speeds for the same price. To be honest, had they charged €20 more, I wouldn't have bothered and I wouldn't be missing out.

On the other hand I could see the 150Mb/s FTTH for €9 more being attractive for anyone who is getting less then say 50Mb/s from their VDSL. But the 300 and 1000 product look like a bit of a stretch.

Checked my address in Drogheda at https://www.eircom.net/ultrafast/ and it suggested I can get 'eFibre', which is the old FTTC that I already have (although with Vodafone).

Does anyone know if the new fibre product is actually live in Drogheda?

Another interesting bit of news it that Vodafone sales guy rang looking to see if they can tie me down to another contract, but when I expressed interest in Eircom's ultrafast, Vodafone sales guy said they will be offering that (reselling eircoms offering, not SIRO) starting from November. Sales guys are not usually the best source of information, but just reporting what he said.

I'm sure Eircom will also eventually do drops from poles and/or use G.Fast to service these houses. But you are correct in that they are likely to focus on the low hanging fruit first.
