This registration is confusing. I'm not sure if I have actually registered or not because when I go back in it just says "to register do this and that etc.

I have paid my fees but do they need confirmation or something? (Step 7)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 kenhan2015

i got an email saying ive registered.

more worried about fees, if your getting the susi grant how can you prove the registration fee has been paid? or proof the grant has been approved?.. all needed for collecting the student id.

i clicked option 3 for payments. im looking at 'Cost of Registration' and its still 3043 incl the levy of 43 which i paid. Pretty sure ill get 100% grant but thats not approved through susi yet - surely im not the only one? any tips?

Did you get an email to your DCU account, or private?

I'm still waiting on a decision from SUSI, my tracker has been stuck on Documents Received since the end of July! So I had to pay half the student contribution and the student levy so I could be registered (€1543 :O )
It turns out that if you're still waiting on grant approval and haven't paid any fees at all, that you wont be a considered a registered student. Meaning you don't get a student card and DCU wont stamp or provide letters of registration.

I got approved for BTEA but need confirmation from DCU of start and end dates and that I'm a registered full-time day student. Without paying what I have, I wouldn't be able to get my BTEA payment until SUSI comes through, and God only knows when that'll be!

The whole thing is completely ridiculous.

    EDIT: Forgot a bit! haha
When you collect your student card during orientation you must provide a letter of approval from SUSI which they should post to you if you've been awarded a grant.

IIRC You have to pay the minimum required by the college to register and this is then returned to you after your grant has been approved.

Sure the whole point of having the grant is because you can't afford to pay the registratsion fees of 1500 / 3000..?

Does anyone have any links about paying 1500 and being refunded or whatever that is.

Still waiting on SUSI to be approved too, ive got an email to my personal account saying ive registered for my course and all tho.

But did you not select option 3 of the Levy only for people who are getting a susi grant?

"Students who have applied for a SUSI grant are allowed to register whilst providing their 13 digit SUSI application number and paying the relevant fee."

Colleges differ on "relevant fee" so check with DCU.

No, I clicked the second option and paid €1543.

When my grant gets awarded, I just have to contact the fees office and they'll refund €1500 as everyone has to pay the €43 student levy fee.

    http://www.dcu.ie/finance/fees/studentfeeprotocol/index.shtml

I found that link in the Rules and Regulations area of the site we registered on. Copy and paste the link into your browser and it'll bring you to the DCU website and there will be a booklet. On page 6 there's a section regarding refunds of fees to students who paid the student contribution while awaiting their decision from SUSI.

I found out looking through other threads that some people did do that but their grant still hadn't come through by the end of September which is the cut off point for fees payment. If they're not paid by then, even if you haven't received your decision from SUSI, you'll be liable to late registration fees of €170 and your accounts will be blocked (moodle, DCU email, library) until the debt is settled.

I stayed up all night worried about this same problem so I came across a good bit of information from other threads and info online which should probably be more available to incoming students.
Instead of going through all the hassle and panicing, I was lucky enough to find someone to loan me the money until my grant comes through and I can give them the money right back.

I registered straight away this morning as I knew this problem would happen.. so stressful. Thanks anyways. Not sure what to do as i can't really whip 1500 out of no where.

I was only able to pay 1000 and would have to wait until the end of the month to pay the 543 do you guys think I would be able to get my ID card?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 maracuja

I'm a bit worried about this too, I chose the 3rd option, put in my SUSI number and paid the 43 euro. I was under the impression that was all I had to do until I find out if I have a grant.

Exactly my situation. Don't have grant approval yet or proof of fees payment.. wish they made it clearer as to what to do.. already have sent an email to the fees office so hopefully something will be clarified.

I'd say your best bet is to ring the registry or fees office tomorrow. You'd have a better chance getting an answer over the phone rather than by email as I'm sure they're swamped.

    Hey guys
So if I didn't get an email does that mean I haven't registered properly?
    Process is a bit confusing...

Just a quick question here! I'm returning to DCU for a masters. Accepted my offer last Thursday. I was just wondering does anyone have a date for when post grads register? Still waiting on hopefully a welcome pack?

Anyone doing DC111 Business Studies... When completing your registration and where it says "step 6- subject selection", are you ticking the optional module MS136A "Mathematics for Economics and Business"? Is this like advanced maths or what? Does everyone tick this?

According to the Academic Calender, postgrads register online is this week 7-11 September and orientation starts 18th (I think the days differ depending on your course). Contact DCU registry office asap if you haven't received your welcome pack.

Thanks so much, you're a star! It's a bit worrisome the amount of time I spent looking for that information and couldn’t!! Email sent. Thanks once again.

Hi! So basically I've always been tempted to set up an account here on boards but never got round to it, lurked for a while though, but this registration is so confusing its the perfect opportunity to join boards haha (so yes this is my first ever post on boards!) So like many others above me have been confused about, I don't understand the whole SUSI/Student Contribution/Fees issue, when I was on the fees part of the registration I selected the third option, even though my SUSI grant has only been "provisionally awarded", I'm hoping that they'll cover the fees. I'm now at the part where I'm paying the 43 euro but there's 3 options: "PAC - Application fees", "Examination Fees" and "Student Fee Payment", I'm assuming its the student fee payment I tick to pay the 43 euro?

    Welcome to boards! :D
If you've been provisionally awarded, that means you'll be getting your grant and SUSI are just awaiting details from CAO or you need to submit a final acceptance form if they ask. Hopefully you'll get a letter from SUSI soon to present to DCU at registration. If not, you'll just have to go to the fees office and present it and proof of payment of the student levy.

You have your grant, so you should just go ahead and pay the student levy of €43. On the online registration website, go to step 7: fees payment and go for option 3 of levy only.

Should I have set up my dcu email by now? How do I do that?

never bothered checking for susi grant because i thought it was only available for irish people. So basically the grant cant pay for your contribution fee and you dont have to pay them back anything right?

Yeah set up your email. DCU will contact you through this email from now on and not your private account.
Go to the DCU website and the very bottom on the left it says Student email, click that. Enter your username and password that you got in your welcome pack and that's it :)
