    Hi all,

I have a 22kw stove in my kitchen and the chimney has your standard clay flue liners but I was thinking of getting a stainless steel flue liner fitted,

rang a company I found on the internet but they won't touch stainless steel because they give too much trouble!

I asked how and was more or less told stainless steel liners are not up to the job and ceramic would be the way to go, that stainless steel are a cheap short term solution and I would probably be getting it changed in 3-4 years time,

anyone care to agree or disagree?

    thanks

I presume u mean a flexi internal liner and not a new double skinned stack outside.
If I am correct then the flexi flue longevity issues include the following
1: how often u clean it
2: if its lined between it and the existing flue with vermiculite
3:the fuel u burn and how hot the fire burns: wet sticks lethal, as is anthracite.

    I was told that
if u burn wet sticks or too hot, don't line, don't clean 3 or 4 times a year: that 3 - 4 years is about right

yes it was an internal liner I was thinking of,

to be honest I was under the impression that a solid stainless steel liner could just be placed down into the existing clay liners, same as the flexi liner...?

I only brush mine once a year but that can change!!

the flexi comes in a roll so I doubt if they meant solid as ur him is probably not straight: how old?

    7 years old,

the top of the stack is cracked horizontally about 3ft down from the top and has been for about 5 years now,

no smoke coming into the attic but when I remove the stove baffle plate to do the annual sweep I do get a small collection of fine red dust!
