So from a financial POV for Hayne would it be better for him to be cut so that other teams can compete for his signature?

They won't compete for him. Wherever he ends up it would be very unlikely for him to be making more than the minimum, there are too many other players who would accept minimum contracts and he hasn't proven anything yet. He'd need to complete a season having played a fair amount to make more money.

He'll be hoping he makes the roster and gets a spot as a returner with some sporadic first team plays, that would be an excellent outcome.

Nah, he's not getting significant money anywhere, I would think. These guys who are non-drafted are playing just for a contract and a shot at the big time. Some of them bounce around the league for years just looking for the phone to ring and someone to bring them into a practice squad with a shot at making the active roster.

Was wondering the exact same thing. Also, why did Hayne stop running? There was no need for him to go into touch there...

Fresh set of downs, no risk of a turnover and I think the clock stops in touch but not in play.

Don't think he's happy to be on his ass but he made the play and stopped someone running full tilt and forced them out of bounds.

Given it was the last pre-season game, he's probably a fringe player trying to make the roster as opposed to being unemployed next week. Making any successful play would be big for him.

There was no space left anyway but if you turnover possession it's a disaster.

Correct. Not that he'll be too bothered with 4 minutes remaining in the 3rd and his team in front.

He made the 1st down and, if he stayed in, he had two defenders right in front of him who he wasn't going to evade. Better to protect possession and step into touch with the job done than try to get past two guys in close quarters and risk a fumble.

Yup, possession is important in rugby...in NFL it's everything. Players are cut from rosters for not protecting the ball and conceding turnovers in pre-season.

Playing Madden online with some asshole laughing at your mediocrity, you really learn this the hard way.

One of the lads in work was showing me the paddy power instagram account yesterday. The skeletor and he-man skits are very funny.

Why didn't White 45 try and turn the ball over then. Fair enough it's a low-percentage play but what's to lose in trying to rip the ball from him there?

Look at the GIF again. He couldn't get close to him to attempt it and he was being blocked by another 49er. By the time Hayne knocked him over he was already out of bounds.

There's also literally no chance of him being able to win possession. Hayne was basically at the touchline.

I think the buzz around Hayne will certainly help him secure a roster spot.

Is it me or is the RTE HD channel for Dublin-Mayo a lot less HD in patches than the Sky quality there during the English game?

    That first goal from Dublin!

Was a cracking finish, though I'm not sure if the guy who crossed it was trying to shoot. Seems high risk to try cross it with your feet at that pace when you're chasing the game.
