So they risk life and limb for benefits??? A shared room and a bus pass?

Plenty (most by all accounts) of them are refusing to register their asylum claim in Hungary knowing that they wont get to choose where they live in the EU. They have their eyes on Sweden and Germany. There is a draw, I'll leave it up to you to decide what that perceived draw may be.

So we need an EU agreement on how to deal with this!

I just thought your post sounded a bit cold, im sure when his parents dressed him that morning that was not how they expected for there wee son to end up, maybe they thought they were doing the right thing a better life in Europe I dont know, but ill bet you that was not how they intended it, I hope this scale of tragedy never reaches you

Yes, it was cold, I will admit that. My first impulse on looking at it was disgust, followed by anger , and mostly directed at the people who put the child in that position, and to be honest I see that as the parents.
Your post reads as if you would like to see tragedy like that reach me, which to be honest, makes me want to find you and cut you into pieces.

The point being that many (most) are shopping for what country they want to live in, which isn't and shouldn't be how asylum works. And ones given asylum in less *ahem* desirable EU countries will inevitably baulk at it and migrate to wealthier European countries anyway. With all the perceived benefits that they believe will come their way.

    Everyone does that, don't they?
which isn't and shouldn't be how asylum works.

    Agreed.

    How should it work, then?

Should the few countries with borders to affected regions be expected to deal with it? Should there be a quota model for determining how many people other states can accommodate?

    What would your solution be?

Yes, it is a shocking image, and it is one that needs to be seen.

Regardless of your views of the refugee/migrant issue, regardless of what you think the solution is or who is to blame, you need to look at that photograph.

Don't just glance and then click away, and don't avoid it because you think you can't handle it. You can. Look, and look for long enough to take it in properly.

These are not genuine asylum seekers fleeing their country because they fear for their lives or they would be asking for camps to be built to house them and look after their needs till they can return to their homeland, These are economic migrants who want a better life and as has been seen in Hungary they are prepared to fight for what they believe they are entitled to.

I can't see the Hungarians taking that for too long before the riot batons come out.

    You have proof of this???

A common EU plan to deal with this refugee crisis is urgently needed, and ALL EU countries must step up

Top 10 countries by numbers of Syrian Refugees taken in.
    1. Turkey - 1,750,000 (2.5% of existing population)
    2. Lebanon - 1,200,000 (27% of existing population) So 1 in 5 people in lebanon are now from syria.
    3. Jordan -630,000 (About 10% of existing population.)
    4. Iraq- 250,000
    5. Egypt - 130,000
    6. Germany - 100,000
    7. Greece- 88,00)
    8. Algeria - 25,000 (but not updated since 2012 so it must be considerably higher by now)
    9. Sweden - 40,000
    10. Austria - Minimum 18,000

So it is unfair to say that Middle eastern countries arent helping and its all being pinned on europe to help out. Though its disgraceful that nearby countries which are relatively wealthy such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE, azerbajan, armenia and georgia have taken in almost no refugees. France, UK and Ireland also really need to help out.

And for the record, anyone who thinks europe has been swarmed already.
United Kingdom, France, Iceland, Poland, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy and most eastern european countries have taken in 500 refugees or less each.
Ireland has taken in 610 refugees and we are a tenth the size of the UK so thats something.

Not an agreement but immediate joint action by all member states to stop this onslaught of migrants at the beachs before they put out to sea or start bringing them back to where they came from and land them and destroy the boats.

As long as those boats put to sea then children will drown!

I honestly don't know. This could be a massive couple of years in the history of Europe. One thing I am certain of is that Europe cant economically or culturally sustain the amount of people that desire to migrate here. And that's not being cold hearted, I don't think it's feasible to take millions upon millions (and that's what's going on) of migrants from a different culture that turn up with nothing but a rucksack and expect our way of life to stay the same.

It's on every news outlet you ...... Pay attention, why do you think the migrants are protesting outside a Budapest train station chanting Germany.

Next time you want to throw a sly remark inform yourself.

What's on every news outlet this morning is a dead boy in search of refuge in EU not getting a train from Hungary to Germany. I'm not from Mongolia btw

They need to show these pictures and the ones of the half eaten skeletons that washed up a few weeks ago to the people BEFORE they get on the boats.

    Might make them think twice.

They see people going and not coming back so think every boat makes it safely.

The fact is though 99% are economic migrants and not genuine asylum seekers.

The minute they get to the country of choice (the UK seems the favorite) they will vanish into the black economy.

I have seen some figures being thrown about and Ireland should take 50,000 according to some..

I don't think so.. We struggle to pay to look after our current population with out adding 50,000 more that needs to be paid for.

That is the problem with pictures like that being shown on tv and in newspapers, people lose any sense of reason and get so sentimental that all reason is thrown out the window.

If there are issues in Syria then that is where the effort should be made by the EU and UN.

I'm sure the death and depravity in their home country means they are willing to risk it.

If they require refugee status, the EU should support that also. rebuilding a ravaged country isnt easy.

That's not the point he was trying to make and you know it. The point is that the problem can be nipped in the bud by stopping rickety little boats from being put out to sea laden down with desperate people.

Like I said pay attention. You read one of many headlines about the crisis, congratulations. Go inform yourself of the others.

You want to get fresh (*durrr Daily Mail durrrr*), at least get your facts straight.

Or maybe it opens our eyes to the genuine suffering, and we cant close our eyes and ears and pretend they are all economic migrants???

That dead boy's parents brought him onto a deathtrap boat and it is their actions that led to his death. Had they stayed on the shore their son would still be alive!

Why don't these migrants settle for eastern european countries like Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine etc, there is plenty of land in Russia for them but they would not have the same benefits as the west offers!
