Ive decided to go for a career change and have been looking at the option of becoming a security guard, I dont know much about what is needed so can anyone shine a light on this? And can you explain to me what a PSA licence is and how do I apply/ get one?

    Contact the Private Security Authority.
They will explain the application procedure, it is very straightfoward.
As part of the process the Gardaí will carry out a background check.

Pick one of these training providers:

    http://www.psa.gov.ie/Website/psa/psa.nsf/F2DE38200EAA1C1F80257AF500542A0A/$File/QQI%20Validated%20Security%20Training%20Providers.pdf

Do their 2/3 day course. It'll probably cost about €200/€250 for the course.

Take your training certificate and apply to the PSA for a License:

    https://www.psaonlineapplication.com/en/

Costs €80 for a static guard license.

Expect to earn approx €10 per hour thereafter. Note that some companies do pay a night/Sunday additional rate, but not all.
