+ 1 to the above. Take it handy until you are sure the body is ready to go again.

Apologies for the delayed reply C, was in Donegal for the week & phone reception is absolute muck. Niggle has cleared but erred on side of caution and have not run on it since last Sunday. Will leave it till Monday before I try a few easy miles.

    Wednesday 26.8.15

    6miles@8.29min/miles in 59min 57secs

Back on the horse, calf felt fine doing this and didn't bother one bit. I paid a visit to the physio while I was off, they informed me my calves were very big for a runner and I should lose some weight off them!! How the fook do you lose weight off your calves? I haven't been over feeding them. Anyway an hour of total agony or ecstasy in TbL land they were knot free.

    Thursday 27.8.15

    8.05 miles@8.32min/miles in 68mins 36secs

I had only planned on doing 5 miles but felt so good while I was out I just kept going. Legs feeling good and again nothing from the calf. 'Bounce' still there after the week and a half break.

    Today 28.8.15

    8.65miles@7.38min/miles in 65mins 58secs (including 2x2 mile LT intervals)

According to P&D LT intervals should be ran at tempo pace, so that was between 6.32-6.48 for these reps for me. Done a handy 2 mile warm up before hitting the first set of LT miles. I knew the first mile was a gradual climb all the way into a stiffish breeze so didn't want to blow the session out of the water by flaking off to hard, built the pace slowly and first mile clocked at 6.39.

The second one had a bit of downhill and uphill so banked time early in the mile incase I flagged later in the mile, no such issue I had to put the brakes on with 0.25 of a mile to go to slow down, second mile beeped at 6.30. Happy with those times and into 5 mins recovery before next set.

Second set was flat as you'll get in my part of the world, again eased into the first mile bouncing along concious to keep a check on the pace, mile one beeped in 6.35. Into second one and was cruising along, cruising to much looked at the watch with 0.25 left and it was reading 6.0x pace. Brakes on again and calmed it down, second mile clocked in at 6.30. Delighted with this, never felt in bother doing it and could have done it faster but that would have served zero purpose.

Keeping in tone with other logs lately, I listened to some tunes while I was out but I won't insult the Fuddy Duddys ears by naming it. It brought me back to my tartan pants days again. Few recovery miles tomorrow and off to the beer festival in the afternoon in the RDS with she who must be obeyed, looking forward to it.

Can't say I noticed the calves but I was a bit uncomfortable with the suggestive lunge type warm up stretches he was trying to get me to do :)

    Saturday 29.8.15

    4miles@9.13min/miles in 36min 57secs

Recovery run around the GAA pitch, legs bit sore from previous days session but I expected that. No new or old niggles bothering me though. Off to RDS later in the day and drank my body weight in beer. For those who like craft beer, Kinnegar 'Crossroads' is delish.

    Sunday 30.8.15

    5miles@8.42min/miles in 43min 36secs

Few very easy miles, no hangover surprisingly enough just tired. Weight has dropped to 12st 12 lbs, first time south of 13st in nigh 2 years and a two stone drop since January, can't complain about that.

    Today 31.8.15

Rest, will do a session on Wednesday on my own, racing a 5 mile next Sunday where there might be a Boardsies Smackdown taking place. That's if they have the balls to turn up.........

Too close to call. Don't think we could get any more evenly balanced match ups if we tried.

    Tuesday 1.9.15

    5.05miles@8.09min/miles in 43min 07secs

Under pressure time wise to get this done hence the quicker than normal pace. Still tipped along handy enough and felt good doing this.

    Wednesday 2.9.15

Enforced rest day, had hoped to do a session but life got in the way.

    Thursday 3.9.15

    8miles@7.47min/miles in 62min 22secs (including 12x1min @ 3k pace off 45secs recovery).

Was looking forward to this all day, McMillan has my 3k pace down as 5.58 so if I could get a few seconds either side of that i'd be happy. The paces came back as follows:

    6.00,5.58,5.59,6.00,5.56,5.55,5.59,6.07,6.00,5.58,5.59,5.56.

The one at 6.07 was because I had to turn and tell a dog to fook off away from my calves, knew they were fat!! Apart from that i'm well happy with this, it was tough but manageable. Makes you look at the like likes of TRR, smmoore, Krusty, dublin runner etc in awe who run at these paces for a whole marathon.

In other news I done something today for the first time in 8 months, I went to work. I think one of ye who know me here know I suffer from depression, at the start of the year it was the worst I ever experienced I was having suicidal tendencies and basically broke down in front of my wife who knew I was having issues. Cut a long story short for the past 7 months or so I have been trying to sort myself out and get our lives back together. It's been tough going I won't lie but thankfully i'm in a better place now but am still a work in progress.

Only for running & Boards I would have gone loopy, so thanks for the banter the past 7-8 months lads it's helped in no small way in me keeping what little bit of sanity I have left. It does get better I know that now.
