Garda Vetting advice

    Hi,

I am looking to get in to care work. I finished college last term and did work experience during that time.... To do the work I was doing required garda vetting..... I worked in the organization for 8 months on work experience as part of my course... I did this without garda vetting.... My garda vetting was never returned to the college along with other members of the course.. Some received there some didnt ( Not failed or not passed, nothing at all)

I am very annoyed atm as I have been offered to do temp work next week for 4 days and then I will be having an interview on the friday to see if I am accepted for the permanent position.. I think because I have no previous garda clearance that it will cost me my chances of getting the work as they are obviously going to pick someone that has theirs already as it is a long process to get one done... I should have told the person that rang me to come in next week that I have no garda clearance but I didnt say anything...

Am I over worrying about the situation? Also is there anyway I can get in contact with garda vetting unit? I didnt receive my garda vetting due to my college errors or the garda vetting unit just not been arsed getting them done... I filled out the form so it was out of my hands from there on... I have since got back on to the college querying the situation but the receptionist saying the teachers are not back till september so nothing can be done... I know I should have done all this before school year ended but I am only comming to realise now that garda vetting can be passed on to your next employer... I am new to this work and my thought was that every year a new garda vetting clearence had to be done and that one already cleared could not be carried over..

Thanks in advance for any advice....

Garda vetting obtained by the college is only relevant for the college, and placements made by the college.

If the organisation wants to employ you separately from the course, they need to apply for garda vetting for your themselves.

You cannot contact the vetting unit yourself, they only take requests and enquiries from registered organisations.

Thank you for reply, Can I ask why the new organization have asked me to bring in my garda vetting clearance from my previous college course? Is this unusual for them to ask that?

That sounds like they are trying to bypass doing it themselves? I could be wrong though.
