Whats a good tripod for satellite?

Hey all,

Mate lives in a protected structure surrounded by trees. So no line of sight if it's on the ground, and would get fined if they put it onto the house.

Now, there's a bit of a field/lawn nearby that's kind of part of the house, about 40 to 50 meters away. Can't put it on the lawn, as there's inquisitive dogs who'd knock it. Thus tripod. But as it'd be in an open area, the tripod would have to be steady. Have also have heard a few stories how single pole + dish isn't good if it's at all windy.

Now, although they'd be pointing it at the Sky sat, would a slightly bigger dish be a good idea (bigger dish = better signal?) or a bad idea (wind + big dish = bad?). Also, as it'll be on a tripod, how workable is a motor? Have noticed that there are a few satellites are that general direction.

Any ideas?

Large Heavy galvanised steel pole.

Dig up ground. Empty in cement. Position pole. Apply dish.

You can also get poles that can be bolted to the ground.

Another solution is to fill an old car wheel with concrete and set a pole in it before it drys, then bury the wheel leaving the pole sticking out from the ground.

Many people also do this as a diy washing line. You will then need to dig a trench cabling should be covered in webbing or a plastic pipe to prevent them rotting in the ground. For long distance you should get ct100 or similar grade of cabling for the extra run or you will have heavy signal losses.
