It's that time of year again, the spiders are back.

The house invasion seems to have started, I've found 5 of these house spiders running around the place so far this week.

Although I've a stupid fear of spiders I stay away from them if they stay away from me. I've an invasion of bluebottles since yesterday who appear to be coming through an opening in an interior wall, so I'm assuming even though there is no smell that there is something dead in there. I'm hoping a spider will slaughter what I can't squish.

Where I work is teaming with spiders all year round, don't really like them but I usually let the be, until recently I realised that the place was full of spiders but at the same time full of flies, basically they weren't doing their job so they got relocated, plus one in the canteen would flick fly carcasses into people's lunch now and then. You get people saying spiders are clean etc blah blah blah, they aren't they're lazy gits with no manners and don't belong indoors.

Can't understand the animosity towards a perfectly harmless & quite useful creature. Unless you're living in a country with really poisonous spiders you don't really have anything to worry about. Even spiders which are dangerous to humans (funnel web etc) rarely cause any problems, even when living & hunting in close proximity to human dwellings. Chances are your house/apartment is more than big enough for a few spiders & you & apart from occasionally having to sweep/hoover away old webs they should pose no issues whatsoever.

We had a false widow two years ago, tried killing it but it's Web was beside a hole in the wall. Big fecker for its size, ie it looked like it was on steroids, ate daddy long legs wasps anything stupid enough to go near it, bodies everywhere it was like an insect Holocaust.

My Mrs. found a big spider above the bathroom sink this morning (although every spider she sees is huge!). She was so scared she had to go to work without brushing her teeth. She had to stop in a chemist on the way and buy a toothbrush and toothpaste!

Why would you try & kill it if it wasn't doing you any harm? Even if it did bite you, which they generally don't do, the effect is usually no worse than a bee sting. Hardly worth killing such a useful creature over.

They're still around. Found one two days ago under the window sill in my front garden.

Our one was jet black, it was getting bigger from all the insects in was eating, was sprayed with everything imaginable and whacked with anything that could reach it. It didn't give a fvck, tough little cnut all the same just vanished one day, worryingly enough. Saw another one in an out building in the job before, had to read a meter under its Web, it was the only spider alive in this Web and it was massive, tattoos in its legs and everything, smoking a cigar, a Web full of dead large house spiders, I looked at it and it said "howaya?" got the fup out of there asap.

Useful? It was making a huge mess. It was like having a messy compulsive eater throwing wrappers all over our workspace.

What is the name of the really big black hairy fat bodied and legged spider that you find here? Tried googling it and came up with nothing. I've had one in the house a few years back and have seen them mainly in garages and the like.

Tegenaria Gigantea

The most common ones I find in the house are cellar spiders.

Probably the same as the one this thread is about.

Called a house spider.

They're pretty big in fairness, about the length of a fag box and the legs can be as thick as a match(as opposed to big ones with legs like a head hair).
You can hear these walking on the ground they're so big.

They start coming indoors around Aug-Sept as they're looking for mates.
I think the bigger ones are males, the opposite sex are small whichever way it goes.

I'm not too scared of "big spiders" but these ones kind of get me in fairness.

Nope that's not it. This thing was really hairy looking and had a fatter body than legs and no markings. I'm getting shivers just thinking about it.
