Yeah from the pics you have posted they look a fair bit behind. I will try get to Coole over the weekend and see what's happening there. It looks like they have started to lay stone at the start of the Motorway in Gort.

Quick question...... I cannot understand why @ annah hill the current N63 / Roscommon road will come to a roundabout they over the M17 then into another roundabout then onwards towards Abbeyknockmoy....
Why could the current N63 not simply flyover the M17 as it is....... why have they it diverging via two roundabouts over the M17....

    I cannot fathom it....

    Cheers M17......

Seems the N63 will snake around and then flyover the M17.....

Why could they not lay it out the same as the oranmore to claregalway road where it flys over the M6...... this road did not deviate at all from its original route / layout apart from the insertion of two roundabouts and associated exit / entry roads to / from the M6

Two pictures from yesterday, first from Westbound showing more supports being put in place and also one from Eastbound showing that they are now starting on that side too.

Heading into Galway this morning at approx 6.45, I passed a convoy of 6 heavy-loaded, slow-moving trucks carrying massive concrete structures, look like spans for a bridge.

They were in two groups of 3, each with an escorting van with lights, turning on to the N63 towards Lackagh from the N17 at Loughgeorge.

So I guess they were heading for either Annagh or Corofin, but I don't think there are any supporting structures ready for them around there. There is a bridge going over the River Abbert at Annagh so it might be for there?

Perhaps they could also get on to the motorway route at Corofin and make their way slowly further towards Tuam to wherever it may be required?

Grabbed a couple of snaps of them while stopped in traffic.

Here they are in situ over the river at Annagh.
In terms of pic quality, phone camera, zoomed in across fields in the rain... but it does the job!

Was in Coole Park yesterday, very disappointed to see lack of progress where the overpass will go. There are no concrete pillars in place, I didn't see foundations for them.

    in my humble opinion:

There is a lot more properties and dwellings particularly to the west of the M17. Putting a GSJ at this location would require a lot more land than is available here other than relocating people and demolishing houses.

There is a slight curve in the motorway road here so it would also result in putting a RSJ on a bend where as the new design has it on a straight stretch of the motorway.

There is a particularly bad bend to the east of the Motorway crossing and the staggered junction for the Tuam-Athenry road which crosses the N63 that would need work doing to them if the original road alignment stayed. The new design eliminates these being accident black spots which they currently are.

There is also the access to Annagh National School which will have its new access away from the national route so this will be much safer....compared to if the existing road was maintained.

These are only a few reasons that the junction design is the way it is...probably is loads more e.g. (vertical alignment etc)

Nice to see designers are future proofing in recent projects if ever there's an extra railway line ever planned

30 yrs time that greenway will have to be diverted up and over because high speed trains will be more frequent and there will be a need for East / West only lines

Yea I doubt that single-carriageway road is new, still fairly impressive though.
