Quick Excel question, if anyone can help:

I need to work out a conditional format to highlight a cell if the difference between 2 cells is greater than 5 or less than 0. You used to be able to apply 2 conditional formatting rules to one cell but you don't seem to be able to any more. So if the difference between A1 and B1 is less than 0 or greater than 5 C1 turns red. Any ideas?

    what version of excel?
With 2013 you can simply be able to add 2 rules to the same cell. Rule 1 - if <0 then Red. Rule 2 - of >5 then Red.

Depends on what version of Excel you are using (hence the "used to").

I work primarily with Excel and googling this stuff specifically helps.

Like "Applying 2 or more conditional formats to one cell in Excel 2007" etc

Yeah, microsoft are sociopaths who take great pleasure in changing all the menus and toolbars every single time they update their software.

They do this deliberately so they can sell training courses to show people where everything has been hidden in the new version.*

*above statement may or may not be true

Playing game on a Laptop and getting 19-40 Frames per second, yeah, I'm gonna be PM'ing you with all my computer queries :pac:

I managed to get a new laptop for under 300 euros that has so far lasted 3 years and counting and is still capable of playing some modern games (war thunder and Kerbal Space Program) at playable frame rates (19 frames a second not playable, 40 frames a second is fine)

I'm pretty happy with that to be honest. I couldn't justify spending more money on a laptop at the time and to get a decent gaming laptop you'd need more than double cost of my Asus x501

Any advice for people who have upgraded to windows 10. I'm just using it the exact same way as I used windows 8:P

Is it actually worth upgrading to 10?

It's arguably a privacy nightmare, as if you don't configure it right, it sends back very large amounts of information about your usage of the computer, back to Microsoft.

There are a lot of rumours around about that now (some true, some undoubtedly false), but there's enough doubt, for me to wait at least a couple of years to find out more, before going near Windows 10.

Windows 8 and 10 come with windows defender already running/installed. This should cover a lot of your security requirements.

When you buy a new pc you may be offered a different anti-virus software where the licence will expire if you do not pay for it after the free trial expires.

It is possible to then find that the trial software no longer protects your pc that it had disabled windows defender.

There's a good app which helps with the privacy concerns made by some Germans.

Think it's called 'do not spy 10'

Ya, my problem with it is, what privacy violations have not been found yet? Plus, since Windows 10 has mandatory automatic updates, they can stick new methods of spying onto your computer at any time.

I might end up switching to Linux and running Windows programs in a VM (on Windows 7), before I end up switching to Windows 10.

The internet is one big privacy violation

Also, so are mobile phones and going outside....

    And not going outside

Windows 10 doesn't have mandatory updates. If you don't want any updates, don't connect to the internet.

If you do want to connect to the internet, then you have a responsibility to keep your software security patched to the latest version to reduce the spread of malware.

Ah, not sure whether this is tongue in cheek? :)

Assuming it's serious (though aware it prolly isn't), I think that allowing greater privacy violations, because some privacy violations already exist, is a fallacious argument, and that people shouldn't accept any increase in privacy violations where practically possible.

Also: Freedom of control over my own computer, is more important than Internet 'herd immunity' through mandatory updates - won't find Linux installs having mandatory updates anytime soon :)

On the "Itchy & Scratchy" CD-ROM, is there a way to get out of the dungeon without using the wizard's key?
