When I am struggling I always say to myself I'm one good run away from turning it all around, hopefully you've turned the corner now anyway.

Super running Anna - what a week - especially the long run, nice confidence booster, making up for the tough one a couple of weeks ago. Great work.

That's a great way to look at it, I'm keeping that line.

The pavlova was fab -- accompanied by ice cream, extra cream and chocolate sauce :D Probably replaced all the calories used on the run in one go!!

    Tuesday, 18 August: 10K Easy*
    6.2 mi @ 9:38/mi; 10K @ 5:59/km

In the Irish Times this morning, Mary Jennings advised forget the laundry, go out and run. Good advice, I thought, the boys don't need clean clothes :p

I had a rest day yesterday, so was wondering what the effects of Sunday's 18 miler would be today... I concentrated on form, tried to run tall, relax my shoulders, etc. Once I warmed up, my legs felt great... the sun was shining, the sea front was lovely, it was a bit hot but a lovely cooling breeze on the way back in.

*The plan has a session tomorrow with 4 miles @ PMP. Today was 6 miles at PMP overall, with 4 miles @ PMP+, which felt very comfortable. So, I thought I'd take that as the session... but then I looked at the notes, which say if you're racing FD 10 miler at the weekend, don't do the session. oops. Easy running for the rest of the week until Saturday.

Had a nice chat with Mr. Edge from Edge's Hardware (a Fairview institution) waiting to cross the road. Lovely man, he was well impressed with my 10k :p.

Hmmm maybe your PMP is a bit soft ;)

Isn't Mr Edge the guy that 'The Edge' from U2 named himself after?

He's always really encouraging. Love that shop, completely untouched by time (or a duster/hoover/mop )

And why wouldn't he be. Great run.

That used to be one of the theories alright, based on the fact that the shop would have been on Edge's bus route into town from Malahide. In fact I once added that 'fact' to the U2 wikipedia page. Pretty sure now that it's a spoof though!

Could well be! Mind you U2 slipped into mediocrity so long ago now that Fairview's Mr. Edge is now way cooler than whatsisname Dave Evans. :)

    Before:
A week of bad sleep, race anxiety dream last night caused by reading Dubgal's pre-race post in the novice thread (and scoring zero on the checklist)... in the dream I was with aquinn, didn't have my number and we couldn't find the start :)

All went according to plan this morning, Bungy and aquinn joined myself and D and off we went in good time, and had no problem finding the race :) aquinn and I did our usual cursory warmup, after relieving ourselves in a gully rather than queuing for the toilets. I left her in the sub 80 wave and lined up at the front of the second wave.

My target for this race: A goal sub 88, B goal sub 90, C goal a PB (better than last year). Gold to beat my unofficial 87 minute 10 mile in the Cork HM. A quick look at a calculator and I decided the pace should be 5:20-5:25/km (about 8:45/mi). Given that my Cork HM pace was 5:25, this was conservative enough.

Miles 1-4 -- Start off fine, then talk myself out of quitting, I can't do 10 miles, giving up on DCM, taking a shortcut, walking just to get the tshirt, remember DG's advice to get the mantra out early, slurp water from those damn cups and start to feel better. Spotted Killerz and twins here somewhere.

Miles 5-8 -- shout out from Bungy and Firedance, closely followed by spray of water from the firemen restores my energy, start enjoying myself and bank enough time to be sure of the PB no matter what happens on the Upper Glen Road.

Miles 8-10 -- nailed the re-entry to the park, slowed down on the drag, but the final Km was second fastest of the day. Waved at Killerz again somewhere in the final mile. Great shout out from FBOT about 400m out, pepping me up for a strong finish. Apparently a great song and dance from Bungy and Firedance around here again (they say) but I didn't see them at all even though I looked straight at them and smiled (they say) .

    After
Great to catch up with lots of Boardsies and parkrunners afterwards, even nabbed a novice flapjack (thanks Toulouse, almost as good as DG's). Seemed like a good day for everyone, lots of PB's reported.

Happy d3 crew on the way home with aquinn and D getting great PB's (much faster than me of course).

Pleased with how this race turned out, enjoyed it in the end, but now there is a part of me saying, hmm, maybe you didn't push yourself hard enough... this wasn't an easy pace for me today, but it was mostly comfortable.

What I learned (here and in Fingal 10k): the first few miles are the hardest always... I allow myself to be full of self-doubt... but now that I know that, hopefully I can manage it better.

Oh yeah, the times, here's my Frank Duffy history. 2013 was the first race series race I did, very fond of Frank Duffy, I have to say.

    2013 |2014 |2015
    1:39:26 |1:30:53 |1:26:57

    10 mi @ 8:40/mi; 16.1 Km @ 5:23/Km
