    Dear All,

I have an upcoming interview (10th Sept) with Dublin City Council as an Assistant Engineer and was hoping that maybe someone has been through this interview with DCC or with another local authority.

Any advice on the type of questions that might be asked or other relevant information that I should be aware of would be greatly appreciated. It's a competency based interview on the following topics:

    Planning & Organising
    Interpersonal Understanding/Communications
    Decision Making/Judgement
    Technical Knowledge & Experience.

If anyone knows someone I could call or meetup with to discuss that would be great.

    Thanks in advance

All interviews in DCC will be competency based .. You will need examples from your working career that demonstrate how you have the specific competency. Use the STAR approach..Situation, Action, Task, Result.
Try to come up with two examples for each competency...and try to get them in during interview.
You may not be asked directly such as ' Describe a time when you did x' ... More what's what's your thoughts on x subject..which may give you an opening to bring an example in..

Also know about roles of councillors, the services provided, local govt reform act 2014 (and changes it implemented), the issues facing the city (transport, housing, etc) and perhaps be able to offer some solutions (relevant to engineering)
Tech knowledge will be your engineering experience (not my area)
    PM me if you wish......

Hi make sure you have at least 2 really strong examples for each competancy.
Explain the situation, what you did and the outcome.

Have a dealing with a difficult customer/ staff member example.

Know a bit about the Council, read anything in the News about whats currently going on. The new mayor. Irish Water.Local government reform and the effect its had.

For the decision making make sure you have an example where you had 2 or 3 options and talk through how you made the decision which option to choose and why this turned out to be the right choice.

Write all your examples down and know them really well ensuring you get the key points across.

Let me know if you need anymore help.
    Good luck :)

    Thanks Zipppy,

Really appreciate your time in replying and the advice is exactly what I need to know. I might pm you when I complete some answers for competency questions to see if they are logical and easy to grasp.

    Cheers..
