I still can't see this on the Pay as You go plans : https://www.vodafone.ie/pay-as-you-go-plans/
    Are you saying you get
    • Unlimited calls to all mobile networks
    • Unlimited texts to all networks
    • Unlimited calls to landlines
    • 3.5GB data
    ?
Sorry - I'm really interested in this so want to make sure...

I'll PM on how it's done

Would you mind sending me the same pm please?

Vodafone seems to be the most consistent network in my rural area so really interested in switching

Could you detail it publicly, because I'm not seeing anything like the plan you speak of on the Vodafone site!

    Get Vodafone PAYG SIM

    BEFORE you top up

    Sign up to Cherry Points

Text Cherry to 50222 to start picking up points with every top up
You'll then need to register with My Vodafone online to access the catalogue of rewards.

EDIT: To opt in, text FREENET to 50222 EDIT

TOP UP by 30euro online or via Myvodafone app
this gives unlimited calls/texts to VF and 500MB of data and 100 international mins. You have 30 euro credit still and can choose to purchase an ADD ON.

Then Text RED to 50233 for Unlimited Any Network Calls & Texts plus 3GB of Data, €30

Note you will have zero credit at this pt.

So for your 30 euro top up you'll get 33 cherry pts (get an extra 10% for doing it online) plus an extra 60 pts for texting RED so 93 pts worth €9.30 towards a future top up

So for €20.70 per month you'll have unlimited calls/texts 3.5GB of data and 100 min International calls

Also theres often top up offers as in top up by 30 and get 35 or 39 credit as well as random extra cherry pts reducing the cost further.

It's important that you set these things up BEFORE you top up.

I hope I'm explaining that okay. Any questions just ask.

On 3 network, like most of the pretendy networks, a BIG no on this one for me. They are barely able to cope with their own customers.

Carephone Warehouse near me, but I've found 3's service fairly indifferent, pre-pay mifi broadband in my case got to benefit from the National Broadband Scheme.

Thanks for that, I wasn't aware of those options at all, I need to switch over to Vodafone because of Meteor's poor service inside my house, so this sounds exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks a million for all the info.

Thanks Thegalwayman, but does this actually work on the second month?

What I mean is, don't you have to top-up by €30 every 30 days in order to get the unlimited calls?

Or can you use the cherry points towards the top-up on the second month? So on the second month can you top-up by just €21 (is that amount even possible) + €9 from cherry points and thus still get the unlimited calls?

If not then it falls down on the second month. Have you actually tried all this and actually used it for more then 2 months?

    Cheers

I think you can exchange the cherry points for top up credit and use this in conjunction with a payment to make the €30 top up (linky)

The 20.70 i quoted is an "effective" rate for sure.

You will be topping up by 30 again in mth 2, 3 and possibly 4 (depending on how much bonus cherry pts you receive)

Mth 1 top up by 30 (cherry bal should be 93+20 welcome pts=113)
    Mth 2 top up by 30 (pts bal is 93 +113= 206)
    Mth 3 top up by 30 (pts bal is 93 +206= 299)
Mth 4 top up by 30 (pts bal is 93 +299=392)
Mth 5 exchange 300 cherry pts for the mth deal and text red to get 60 pts (pts bal is 60+92left over =152)
Mth 6 top up by 30 (pts bal is 93+152=245)
Mth 7 top up by 30 (pts bal is 93+245=338)
Mth 8 exchange 300 cherry pts for the mth deal and text red to get 60 pts (pts bal is 60+38left over =98)
Mth 9 top up by 30 (pts bal is 93+98=191)
Mth 10 top up by 30 (pts bal is 93+191=284)
Mth 11 top up by 30 (pts bal is 93+284= 377)
Mth 12 exchange 300 cherry pts for the mth deal and text red to get 60 pts (pts bal is 60+77left over=137)
Mth 13 top up by 30 (pts bal is 93+137=230)
    Mth 14 top up by 30 (93+230=323)
Mth 15 exchange 300 cherry pts for the mth deal and text red to get 60 pts (60+23=83)
    Mth 16 top up 30 (93+83=176)
    Mth 17 top up 30 (93+176=269)
    Mth 18 top up 30 (93+269=362)
Mth 19 exchange 300 cherry pts for the mth deal and text red to get 60 pts (60+62=122)
    Mth 20 top up 30 (93+122 is 215)
    Mth 21 top up 30 (308)
Mth 22 exchange 300 cherry pts for the mth deal and text red to get 60 pts (60+8leftover)

16x30 euro top ups 480 divided by 22mths is 21.82 and you have 68pts (worth 6.80) leftover.

I suppose its counter intuitive that you're topping up by a larger amount and you can't necessarily put an annual cost on it but I have been doing it this way for the past 18mths if not longer. Also bonus cherry points and top up offers bring the effective cost below 20. Example top up by 20 or more before 30/8/15 and get an extra 5 credit.

Also you can often leave a day or a few days between topping up and texting RED to stretch it out a bit if after topping up by the 30 you are calling VF or INT or messaging over data services for those days.

Thanks Thegalwayman, that makes sense now.

Personally I think Tesco Mobile is much easier and gives you 2GB more data for the same money, so I'll be sticking with that. But very useful tip for people living in areas with poor Three/Tesco Mobile network coverage.

Another tip for people with poor indoors network coverage, Vodafone also sell a picocell, a device you connect to your broadband and which then creates a local cell site and routes all your calls, texts and data over the broadband connection when you are at home. They work well, I use to use one before I switched over to Tesco Mobile, who has better network coverage in my area. See here for details:

Are there any mechanisms to auto top up from a bank or cc?
Some of these PAYG options look to be better value than the rolling 30 day contract i'm on but i'm lazy and having to remember to top up for myself and the missus would be a pain....

Interested in this also but would have the same reservations (laziness) as @Scruff

Seems a heck of a complicated way to manage your phone.

How do you track the 100min international course to check to stay in plan for example.

Do you mean with Tesco Mobile? Yes you can register your credit or debit card with them online and it will automatically take the top-up every 30 days with no intervention needed by you, unless you want to change the amount. All very easy.

I'm not sure about 48, but I'd be surprised if they didn't have the same.

Was wondering about all of them :)

So taking Tesco as an example i could register cc for €20 top up every 30days and then sign up for the recurring bundles of 5gb data and unlimited texts at €10 each. That would give me unlimited calls, texts and 5Gb data for 20yoyo top up hassle free? Thats pretty good.
I guess the only issue there is you cant convert tesco points to credit?

Not hectic at all, texting those numbers is just a once off to get you on the right plans. Then after that it's just as simple as topping up €30 every month to continue the deal. When you have enough Cherry Points trade them in for credit.

You can check your remaining minutes on My Vodafone, but that's not entirely necessary as you may have no credit in the phone anyway as this plan takes the €30, so you couldn't possibly go over the 100 International minutes unless you did have spare credit in the phone for calls or texts that are not included in the plan.

Yup, that is exactly how it works and it is exactly that easy.

Also don't forget to register your clubcard with Tesco Mobile, so that you get points when you buy credit.

You can still convert your clubcard points to credit, you jsut have to remember to disable the auto-topup before you apply the credit and re-enabe auto-topup afterwards again. Admittedly that is less convenient. But either way still great value for money.

You can actually - the tesco clubcard boost give you €15 top up credit for the equivalent of €5 in tesco vouchers (that you get from your points) - linky

That the best thing about tesco mobile.
I get about 80euro of clubcard points in the December mailing. I convert them into 240euro bill pay and it covers my 20euro monthly plan for a year.

When you do that, I assume you have to apply the credit at €15/20 per month in order to get the unlimited calls every month. I assume you can't just dump the whole €240 in at one go?

Yea. Wife is on that plan. The plan I'm on suits my needs, and the 15 unlimited plan has to be topped up monthly. Prefer to put the credit on in one go and forget about it. I also got the s4 mini free when signing up gave it to the wife for Christmas.
