Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Hey guys,
    Is there rules for what items you can and can't send abroad. Will need to post a package to Canada in the next month. Will include some books and drink. Is this allowed?

    Darn cant send any drinks. Is that just An post who wont ship or will no courier?

    They definitely sell Irish Whiskey in Canada so someone manages to get it out there.

    You can take it as duty free as well, but only accompanied. :)

    There are two obvious reasons why you aren't allowed to send alcoholic beverages in the general mail. One is it's a liquid, so if the packaging is broken, it'll spill and damage other items in the same container, not just your package.

    The second is Duty/Tax. Typically rates of tax on alcohol are much higher than on other items, so they don't want people evading those taxes by sticking it in the mail. That also affects other liquids that aren't taxed, though, because the postman can't tell whether a higher rate of duty applies to one bottle than another, so it's simpler to just ban it all. That also applies to couriers - if anything, they're even more likely to pay attention to issues of Duty/Tax than the general post will be.

    It might be cheaper all round to order the drink from an online retailer in Canada (if they have what you want) and get them to deliver as a gift.

    They also do not like Liquids in airmail, cannot screen them easily.

    Liquids were banned long before that type of scanning was common.
