That revamp is quite recent because I looked at the Power City site only a month or two ago and it looked like something that even Geocities would have rejected for looking too crap.

Lol thats the one. Im sure the cache of the old website can still be found somewhere.

    TheJournal is dire beyond compare
independent.ie is an awful experience too.

"Shure where would ya get it"

People sending in photos of when the sun comes out for 5 mins. I'd tell you where you would "get it", almost anywhere other than Ireland.

    "Da Papers"

    "We don't normally do this"

People sending in photos of their **** bikes with a message "I bought this bike for 5 grand 2 weeks ago and it was nicked from outside a pub in Cabra. I only went in for 5 mins"

    "Ah Here"

    etc. etc.

And then below the line the same 10 to 15 posters who are permanently angry and just complain about whatever it was that has just been posted.

I doubt DOB is losing any sleep over them tbh.

    'Dublin, you're looking well!'

    'Meanwhile, in Rathmines...'

Does Aine Chambers have any site?

    That would be the best.

Something strange I just noticed. Put her name into Facebook and click on her Fanpage.

Breakingnews.ie is nearly as bad as thejournal.ie

Nearly but the journal is awful. They've gone down the road of pandering to the Shinners and Anti Water crowd which they are infested with. All they're after is click count for advertising, and are shameless in doing so.

And it features stuff from outside of Dublin too.

What would you prefer from an Irish site? "Meanwhile in Baghdad"?

every couple of hours is a gurning pic of Enda Kenny with a headline along the lines of "Guess who ran over your dog then took a sh*t on the declaration of independence"

just to enrage the shinners & the 'antis'.
Anger drives clicks... which drives sweet sweet cashish.

They know what they are, no point improving now.

    (and this isn't hyperbole..... http://www.thejournal.ie/enda-kenny/news/

i'm more making fun of the tropes/banal phrases than the location.

Arent Thejournal, thedailyedge and boards.ie all the same owners?

Its aimed at office workers bored out of their minds looking for a distraction. Its not meant to be The Wall Street Journal.

Yes, and daft too. All owned by distilled media. Pretty sure adverts is too.

    Another dreadful website.

    Selling this iPhone, no offers.

I thought Daft bought a chunk of Boards but the lads behind Boards owned The Journal, Daily Edge, Adverts etc under the Distilled Media holding company seperately.

    Could be wrong though.

just because banality has a purpose/audience doesn't mean we should accept it.

The Irish websites I visit most:

All the Irish-English-Irish dictionaries and pronunciation guides (getting bigger every day)

Placenames Database of Ireland (continuously fascinating and enlightening about all Irish placenames)

Library catalogue with free downloadable audiobooks, music, etc

Mydealpage.ie (all the Groupon/Pigsback/Living Social etc deals on one website)

IrishTimes.com (the best of an awful print media in Ireland)

True, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of their own staffers had IDs on both sides, to stoke things up further. As against that, I know one of the "ordinary" contributors who has their own separate issues and they are being consumed by it all.

broadsheet is pretty shit these days too.

I like the funny and non serious stories on Broadsheet but the political ones are too lefty for my liking so I don't even click on them anymore, especially that French bloke (or bloke with the French name).

With Waterford Whispers I think reading the heading is enough. They make me laugh but the stories themselves try too hard to keep the joke going and it normally has run out of steam by about the second line. It was the same with the Onion for me.

Don't blame the site though, blame the internet for allowing mentalists a place to be mental.

You have to blame the site. Donedeal works, the way in which transactions are done on adverts just doesn't.

My mate has a car up on Done Deal, she specifically asked for calls only between 18:00 and 21:00.

Had a missed called from 03:30 the other morning, a few after midnight.

Just after checking Alexa and this is madness.

The Sunday world website is one of the most visited news websites in Ireland
And it ranks and number 31 overall.
    OMG.
Who the hell is reading that rag. It's even above the guardian haha

    I agree.

AFAIK Done Deal lets sellers put their phone number up whereas Adverts makes sellers go through a big merrygoround of bollixology.

Worst: Joe.ie and TheJournal.ie.....appalling copy n paste clickbait bollix

Another vote for joe.ie for worst.

"check out this Irish mammy's reaction". "Things only an Irish mammy would say". "How you know you have an Irish mammy"...etc ad nauseum.
