    I'm a bit of a tight arse

Irish water - no one else is paying why should i

TV licence - never watch any of the main Irish channels so I'd rather not help pay Joe duffys quarter million wage

Torrent - can't justify this one morally

Health insurance - don't see why you should pay for it, gives the government an excuse to not fix the two tier health system

So basically a childish narcissistic excuse.. nobody else is paying so I am not paying, its not true that nobody is paying.

If you don't pay everyone else pays for you it does not go away.

this is the first thing I thought of reading the thread title, whoever runs the Stephen's Green centre can fupp off if they think I'm paying to take a dump.

It's true. The paid for toilets are crap. Probably they would be even worse otherwise though.

Dog license, if and when I get a dog.

music . it's genuinely easier to just rip an mp3 off a youtube video nowadays then it is to go into itunes to download the same song. it may not be morally justifiable but i'd also find it hard to justify going to extra effort just to pay for something i can get for free.

Insomnia coffee - self service cup, €2.00 - go to the counter, order the same cup of coffee off "the barista" and it's €2.50 or more. I'll press the button myself, thanks all the same..

Most products of the "arts & humanities". It only serves to encourage more kids who "can't do maths" to go to university and get a BA in Comparative Literature or Art History or whatever. Though I will make exceptions for classical music: you don't get to play that in public unless you're really talented and disciplined, and have put the hours in.

I don't refuse to pay for it, bit I hate paying for......

Extortionate bank charges.........daily use, not even considering DIRT

Dog licence (I love my dog, but can't see the point of a licence)

TV licence .... Notice the theme but really they are charging the advert companies enough

Water..... We live in a beautiful yet really wet country

At work when someone leaves, gets pregnant, have a baby, gets engaged, new haircut etc you feel you have to contribute to the 'fund' or be the stingy one even if you don't like them

Music, TV or Movies. It's a little morally dubious but I don't have the money for them and they're freely available to me off torrent sites.

Also, TV in general.. I can stream a match or go to the pub for it, i watch approximately **** all scheduled programming that isn't sport. It's all there online sure.

Toilets....I just don't understand what could possibly be gained by anyone charging for the use of toilets.

Other than that I pay for everything else....I don't feel the need to stick it to the man by refusing to pay for insurance, licences, taxes etc while having everything handed to me as many here seem to feel is their right. That's not how life works, and it's not the way run a country.

TBH by refusing to pay for things like the above you're just kicking yourself in the foot. You'll just end up with no vehicle, no gas, water or electricity, huge health bills, no television and either several large fines or several jail sentences.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,673 ✭✭✭AudreyHepburn

Probably. But it's just too expensive unfortunately

You know you could end paying out a hell of a lot more without it don't you?

It's a fools game not to have imo.

    Private clamping.

The idea that someone can set up a private company and immobilise my vehicle is ridiculous. The fact that its a pretty lawless business just encourages me even more not to pay.

Just don't park where you're not supposed to and you won't have any problems with these companies.

Service charge for waiters...we ĺive in a society with a minimum wage..why do I pay waiters more for bringing my food when surely its in the job description?...for some reason I find acceptable to tip a taximan though

Food at the cinema...theres always a newsagents closeby where you can by a can of coke and a bag of manhattan popcorn

Bottled water....I refuse to buy it when I have an alternative of tap water.

You may not pay for it but you have to earn it.

That used to be the way, yes.

Nowadays it is demanded by just a few too many assholes

Its not that simple though. The fines are extortionate, and I've had my own car clamped outside my apartment despite calling the company to tell them its there. I refuse to pay money to companies that clamp on a whim.

air for car tyres. Too many places now trying to charge 50c. Id sooner get down on my hands and knees and blow into the tyre.

By law they have to turn on the air if requested as it's considered a road safety issue
