I don't know but it just doesn't add up for me. Given his injury difficulties you would think he be happy knowing that he will be rotated but still play circa 30 games in all comps with the majority against the bigger sides like city/Chelsea

I wonder is he guaranteed that amount of game time though.

For him personally unless he's pretty sure he'll get that amount of games he shouldn't really stay.

There definitely seems to be a bit of working out to be done in midfield.

It seemed to me that Hendo was mostly taking the job of the deepest midfielder and taking the ball out of defence, with Milner a little bit ahead of him.
Looking at the passing stats, Milner seemed to spend most of the game on the right hand side and went from box to box whereas Henderson largely stayed in midfield. Kindof the opposite of what I would've expected, given that Milner is slower, older, stronger in the tackle and I would imagine reads the game better defensively, given his experience and versatility throughout his career.

I haven't seen the stats to back it up yet, but it didn't seem like one or the other was particularly focusing on long passes, but if one of them does I'd imagine it'll be Henderson in his holding-ish role.

Can was quite deep as well when he came on.

I wonder was it an explicit tactic to bottle Stoke up, but free space for Coutinho to run into, with Can planned to move further forward when Ings was to replace Coutinho.
Did that lead to the space for Coutinho to score the goal? Will that be a permanent tactic to always leave space for Coutinho?
I hope not, because I'd hope we have more strings to our bow than that - we don't have many other direct players through the middle so I'd like to see a player like Can take turns venturing further forward.

Alternatively, was the whole thing first and foremost a defensive posture?

Be interesting to see how the shape changes at home to a team like Bournemouth.
It'd be nice to see someone else closer to Benteke.
That might even be Lallana - this might be a game that suits him more.

Still very happy about yesterday's win.

I'm not going to get to caught up in formations and tactics at this stage as fitness is still being worked on as well as new tactics from new coaches and new players getting to know each other's games.

I'm happy that we could in ugly and also win in the last minutes of the game.

Also, a great start to Henderson's captaincy.

    Bournemouth the ideal next game.

Excuse Moi Mon Ami, why did you call yourself Je Suis Mario? I don't see the french connection, did you not know the Italian for I am Mario?!
I think he was referencing the Charlie Hebdo support rather than mixing up his languages;)

I haven't seem the match yet, maybe tomorrow, but it's nice to be +3 points and +5 goal difference over the same fixtures last year.

    Our year after all:)

Thought Clyne and Ibe worked well together on the right side.

At times - especially thanks to their bright blue and orange boots respectively - it looked like two fella's playing Fifa co-op.

Ibe still has a lot to work on though - far too often he'd get into a good position after beating one man and opening options inside, with two opposition players ahead of him. Guys would make great runs inside him, but he'd hesitate and lose the chance. He really needs to be much much quicker once he's beaten his man to get his head up and take advantage of his teammates runs.

Love the in depth tactical stuff. Neville does be brilliant on it too as much as I disliked him as a player.

I'd like to see the diamond myself and I do think we'll see it when Sturridge is back, the only thing is it leaves Firmino, Lalana and Markovic as squad options really, Coutinho is default there atm.

If it works though, it's needs be and we've a great bench to pick from.

It definitely gives us options and until Sturridge is back I'd be happy enough with Firmino up top with benteke and coutinho in hole.

All going well though I'd like to see the two up top firmino in the hole and Coutinho playing deeper like in 13/14.

Again it gives us great options off the bench with the likes of can/Lucas/Milner/henderson competing for the other two midfield roles

Until Firmino gets a few starts it's hard, and probably a bit pointless wondering what our preferred formation is.

4-3-3 or a 4-1-2-2-1 maybe. Then we've Sturridge to come back too.

Firmino hat trick doesn't mean much other than it's better happening than not but that's a half decent second team!

Lucas was left crestfallen by the snub and is now considering his options with a possible move to Italy back on the agenda.

Did anyone else watching season 2 of True Detective do a double-take to check if it was Lazar Marković making a cameo (episode 3)?

    Badogan
    Mclaughlan/Flanagan Toure Lovren moreno
    Allen Lucas/Rossitier
    lalanna
    Markovic Ings Origi

Uefa Cup team should be good enough to go through the group stages

Enrique to WBA. Borini to West ham, Ballotelli to anywhere, lucas to italy if he still wants to leave if lucas does leave then I think we should go back in for kovaic from inter in the summer

If Lucas does push for a move then surely Alex Song should be high on the list of potential replacements. I had to Google to make sure I hadn't missed him moving somewhere but it seems Barcelona are struggling to offload him.
