This is pointless speculation, but if I had to guess what the Lucas stuff is based around, is him wanting to leave last summer/January, and Rodgers persuading him to stay. Probably told him he's first choice, and now, its damn clear that he's not, and he could well be put out by that, especially if he had been given assurances of first team football.

Being bypassed for vice captaincy might also have pissed him off, who knows.

In all Lucas time here he has been rotated and has never once complained or thrown the toys out of the pram.

He just doesn't strike me as someone who would demand to be first choice.

He is also a father figure to South American players in the squad and has helped integrate and get these players settled in Liverpool which is something that is hugely important and isn't something to be treated lightly.

Jesus that makes me feel old.

Doesn't seem like that long ago he was making his debut.

I thought Ibe was poor again yesterday. His movement off the ball is really bad. He basically stands deep on the wing waiting for the ball to feet all the time. His decision making isn't great and almost always just runs with the ball into crowds of players. I still think we should have loaned him out for the season. His pace and power would be great as an impact player but I would prefer he was learning his trade week in week out starting. I would prefer though he wasnt doing that in our first team.

Happy with the 3 points yesterday and a cracker goal, but, there's no change in Glen Johnson, he still looks like hes playing for the opposition...

I do remember some rumblings at the start of the summer about him leaving with a few clubs interested which all seemed to stop stone dead. I wonder if he was convinced to stay with certain promises but then none to happy when it turns out he wasn't starting yesterday. All just conjecture of course.

Totally agree with all of this, but I doubt he'll be happy with a bit part role at this stage in his career. I'd hate to see him leave (at least without a patently top-notch upgrade being signed), but he might want to for his own sake, and I couldn't fault him if he did.
Unfortunately we only sign Premier League proven / players with potential and the proven option has signed for Man Utd.

I'd like us to go shopping in Argentina and sign a player that will potentially replace Mascherano in the national side, a classic Argentina #5. River Plate have three young players for the role - Ezequiel Cirigliano (23), Matias Kranevitter (21) and Emanuel Mammana (19). Cirigliano is the most creative player, Kranevitter is better defensively but has less pace. Mammana is the potential defensive gem though - he made his full international debut before he made a first team appearance for River Plate, he's taller than the other two and so is more likely to be able to handle aerial challenges, he's being accommodated at right back but has also played in the centre. Kranevitter was eye catching when River Plate won the Copa Libertadores.

maybe he feels he's as good as or if nit better than our current midfield options, whereas in the past he wasn't as good as Alonso, Gerrard and Maschereno. He was also younger then and maybe more happy to bide his time.

I bored everyone I knew to tears last year saying we should have left Southampton everyone else and bought Schneiderlin, I almost worked it into a bestman's speech.

N'zoni wouldn't have been a bad option either, but that ship has sailed.

A cut-price option might be Jedinak, always impressed me when I've seen him for Palace.

Anita at Newcastle and Cork at Swansea bear watching, too. Southampton were mental to let the latter go, although Ward-Prowse promises much.

there's no point in going through all the specialist DMs we could buy. there are loads of them.

the simple fact is Rodgers doesn't really believe in specialist defensive midfielders, so he's not going to buy one. he wants all his midfielders to be able to do a bit of everything.

i'd say Lucas gives him a pain in his arse.

Sign Kranevitter just for the Frasier jokes or Grzegorz Krychowiak even though I can't pronounce his first name never mind his second.
    Moar unrealistic targets

Yesterday I was subjected to an oinseach telling the world ad nauseam that the player we need is Jack Colback, the gob****e she was with was in on it too.

The 3 CM's that finished the game yesterday are all able to harry and close down players when we dont have the ball, and have a bit of attacking thread about them as well.
I reckon 2 out of the 3 of them starting every game, and that "should" be enough protection for our back 4.

Milner and Henderson are good at leading the pressing, but they're not good enough to stop attacks constantly throughout the game. Can also doesn't look like he can play that 'Matic' role in midfield. The only one in the squad who can adequately protect our back 4 against good teams is Lucas.

I don't know but it just doesn't add up for me. Given his injury difficulties you would think he be happy knowing that he will be rotated but still play circa 30 games in all comps with the majority against the bigger sides like city/Chelsea

I hear we are linked with a young Irish midfielder Jack O'Alltrades.

An here, don't put me that company, it's debatable whether Colback's even good enough for the Mags.

To be fair to him, he has a point there, both in general and about Lucas in particular. Too much is made of midfield specialisation, I think it lets a lot of players stay in a comfort zone.

Raheem Sterlings crashed Mercedes was found in London. Two cannisters of laughing gas were also found. It is unclear at this stage if Mr Sterling was driving the car however Police are more concerned about the five children in the back seat.

It was "lent to a friend", apparently.

To say there is little or no difference between AM and DM is wildly inaccurate.

I genuinely thought all of this was a joke, until I googled it.

    What's he up to?

The problem with not having a specialist DM, is what happens when a good team beats the press?

I'll tell you what happens, we get fúcked.

There's a reason Chelsea have Matic, Utd bought Schneiderlin, and Barcelona have Busquets.

Not a great performance yesterday but might look a very good 3 points at the end of the season especially once Stoke get the likes of Shawcross and Bojan back and Get Shaqiri in the the team. Will definitely take points of some of the big teams there this season.
