Every manager falls out with players. They're usually players who have fallen out of favour with him though. When regular first teamers turn their back on him then I'll worry. Lucas just isn't dynamic enough for Rodgers and that's fair enough imo. If we fail this season he'll lose his job but we didn't have an out and out cdm playing regularly when we nearly won the league. That kind of team is the one he's trying to recreate. If it can work without Luis is the question that will determine his future.

Least the thread will have some gossip to take as gospel for Meltdown Monday.

The Lucas "falling out" would have been really interesting coupled with a Stoke win today. That would have lit up the thread.

Hopefully it's nothing, but if it's something let's hope we get in another midfielder

Ok, it's clear Rodgers has fallen out with Lucas, it's all Rodger's fault, Lucas will leave all because of Rodgers.

On a more serious note who would prefer Lucas, Milner & Hendo over Can Milner & Hendo?

Because if Lucas isn't buying into the squad mentality and throws a hissy fit as he's a non starter than he can f*ck off imo.

There's going to be a good few players not making the bench this season. I know a few players are not used to that, that was because of lack of squad depth.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

Miss the days when Coutinho used to hit the corner flag with his shots.

    You mean the first half

The falling out was before he was left out.

Paul Joyce: "Lucas left out of the squad entirely following a fall-out which presumably now promotes the prospect of a parting. He would need replacing."

Indeed, they all need to buy into it, for the club

Don't see the point of this. Every title-winning side has a proper destroyer in midfield, and in 13/14, most of the reason we didn't win was down to our **** defence, which needed a DM to sit in front of the back 4. Selling Lucas without replacing him adequately would be a disaster and ruin all the good work of this window.

The falling out was before he was left out......

Lucas - "Am I playing the weekend boss?"

Rodgers - "No, you mightn't be on the bench either"

    Falling out

So this speculation on the situation is more substantive?

I like Lucas, he seems like a genuinely great fella, but I think his value gets overstated a little bit nowadays, and I honestly wouldn't be too upset if he was moved on.

I would think that a proper DM would be needed if he is moved on, but as Osmosis said, if Rodgers doesn't want to play with one, then there's probably no point.

Playing a cdm destroyer would have taken some of the creativity away from the team and tbh our defense didn't really cost us the league, Man city being a superb side did. It's not a coincidence that team that scores the most goals usually wins the league not the team that concedes the least. United won plenty of trophies with Carrick at the base of their midfield and he's far from a destroyer. He's great at reading the game and setting a tempo. Whether you agree or not the fact is that it's clear it's not how our manager wants to set up. Accept it and let him succeed or fail on his own terms. I don't think the loss of Lucas will be a barrier that Rodgers potential replacement (should he fail) will struggle to overcome.

Leighton Baines out for 3 months and will miss the first derby.

The place isn't in meltdown. Joyce is usually very reliable so it's worth paying attention to.

This is a not good. Lucas should be kept. The DM position has been a problem for years now with no direct replacement for Lucas in the squad in times of injury/bad form/competition. Now if he goes we will need to bring someone in to replace him instead of, as many hoped including myself, bringing in competition for him.

Joe Gomez for 3.5m. If we sold him in the morning we'd get treble that already.

Just wait till next summer - City will make a 20m offer. Man City that is.

I could see these links for illaremendi being true if Lucas was to leave.

No, our defence most definitely cost us the league. Palace away, we're 3-0 up, and our defence f*ck it up. It happened several other times that season and luckily our attack bailed them out time and time again until it inevitably ended in failure.

We scored 1goal less than City that season, but conceded 13 more. It's easy to see where our season went wrong.

United also had in Vidic and Ferdinand, 2 of the best CB's in the game. Skrtel and Sakho are decent, but nowhere near their level. I think the best example of a team we should aim to emulate it is Arsenal. Arsenal's biggest problem (aside from a top striker) is the fact they have no proper DM, and haven't had any physicality in midfield since Vieira. It's no wonder that for many, many years, Arsenal have won no major trophies, and consistently get bullied off the park by bigger teams. If we ever hope to be like Arsenal yet win stuff, we must get a proper DM. If not, BR has no hope of doing anything more than nearly winning the league under his reign.

Fair to say both our upgrades at fullback were the two best purchases of full backs during the transfer window.

This. I was annoyed we didn't have any DM cover. Now we might not have a DM.

It's times like this you're reminded that you support the most frustrating club in the world. This team has lots of potential, but without a solid midfield and adequate defense, we will have lots of 'nearly's' in the future.

That's the tweet I've been waiting for all summer.

She loves a clean sheet more than Brendan loves himself.
