I'm not a huge car person in all honesty, motorbikes are more my thing, but I do appreciate a car that looks well.
Ive an 11 year old Audi A3 3 door, its my first car, and I have to say imho it has aged really well, still looks really well to me, and plenty of others have remarked the same to me.
With that in mind, what cars do you think have aged well.

I think all BMWs age well.....the designs are never too outlandish, and as a result tend to stand the test of time.

I suppose the same could be said of other high end German cars....Audi, Mercedes, etc.

    Fiat Bravo.
Design from 1995 so 20 years since it appeared on the market.
    Still looks great IMO.

Mark 1 Audi TT came out in late 90's and has aged well. The A2 possibly the same. Not that I'm a fan of it though.

We had a slightly different thread a few months back, "what car from ages ago could be sold today as new" or something to that effect. The A2 was pretty much the only car we could agree on!

I guess it depends on a budget. I've always drive audis and my husband a bmw. My son started in an Audi that was 5 years old and then passed onto my daughter which now makes it 8 years old and it is immaculate.

Yes yes yes 100% agree. Especially with a set of polys and an altered grille they still look fresh.

Sadly very few left these days. Thankfully what replaced it is also a rare sight

VW Golf MK IV and Renault Megane MK 1. I still think both look good. Renault Laguna MK 2 still looks great.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I literally couldn't agree any less. No offence! :D

The E39 like the E46 is. Unbelievably dated looking imo. The E60 still looks very fresh, but the '39 I think was dated by 2006-2007... It still looks like a late 90's car!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,328 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I would agree. The e39 is a very handsome car, but it is undoubtedly 90s in its proportions and styling details.

    +1

Having had a pre facelift E39 as a daily once it didn't age well at all. A very good looking car otherwise in a sea of blandboxes

    The 2000 vw beetle
    The 2000 mini
    The audi TT and S3

Think those 4 cars haven't aged a day.

The 2000 beetle was unveiled in 1994!

Didn't think it was that old, it still looks ok...

Wish they'd ditch the year on the number plates really kills good cars for no reason...

How does it kill good cars?
People who are interested in good cars don't give a hell about number on a plate.
Number on a plate only relates to ones like neighbours where one has 132 and other 151 so latter can be more proud of himself. Not to mention the fact that both of them have basic spec corolla or something.

I'm gonna go for an audi - A80 / A100 look the job nowadays

Also Land Rovers : especially the old ones where you had no lock and could only do a 7-point turn. These look like a little bit more worn versions of the last land rovers to be made

A neighbour has one of these for as his everyday car, never lets him down. I think it looks even better now.

I think the term "a car that's aged well" is a car that would surprise you at it's age by still looking respectably modern despite being uninsurable with allianz or aviva.

I think the OP is spot on in that his 2003 A3 is a car that at a glance i could mistake for being a car a decade younger than it is.

Some of the suggestions are gas, the e39, saab 900, pug 406 coupe etc, while all being reasonably good looking cars are all showing their age rather obviously as automotive "style" has come quite a long way since their day. These thread usually get quickly mis-interpreted as a "what do you think is a good looking car" thread and miss the point entirely.

A car that's aged well? E14 corolla, heading for a decade on the go, it's not the prettiest or the most interesting but even the oldedt incarnations look fresh enough so it's aged well imo.

    toyota-corolla-e14e15-1.6-vvt-i-sol-2007-2010.jpg

The mk5 golf is another. Still percieved as a very fresh car but it's out 12 years this year. Come to think of it, a lot of the VAG range has aged quite well.

The mk2 focus is clinging on well too...
    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQPLtyOs7xAAIwSS4J-oyJS6X1mmRO0IGrkloR2PpqMG-NjMjOQmQ

It came out in 2004, the same year as the nissan tiida and pug 407 which are getting fairly knackered looking, for example. The e60 is also from 04 and unlike the e39, still looks "modern".

So Audi A3 yay, the rest nay... :D I think you're contradicting yourself here ;)
    A car that's aged well? E14 corolla,

this is where I stopped reading. :pac:

Gorgeous car. I had bought it twice in the past and if only could find one exactly like on this picture would buy it again. Has to be automatic though.

I don't agree even if the changes from Model to model are reasonably small.

Think you are spot on, I was more so referring to cars that still look modern and could be mistaken for being a more recent design than they actually are.
But its an interesting subject and enjoying the thread so far :D

Volvo S40. Biased slighlty, but it's been out since 2004, and I think has aged well. It wasn't replaced by a new model which certainly helps, and was pretty much the same for 8 years or so.

I love this citigolf after seeing it in another thread. I'd buy it in the morning if I had the cash

Another vote for 90s Beetle and the first two versions of the new mini. Saw an 11 year old Cooper S this morning and it looked as if it could have rolled off the assembly line recently.

It funny how cars can age though. I've long said that the face lifted XF didn't look it's age... until this week. All of a sudden it looked dated to me. Fastest dating car for me was the i40. Thought it looked very well for a year or two and then looked crap.

While a nice car, it has not aged well in the sense that you'd confuse it with being far more recent than it is. The design is definitely old and you couldn't confuse it as anything else imho.
