I'm excited and optimistic despite knowing that I should be neither as a Liverpool fan ha! Please get a dodgy win. A loss would be super deflating tbh.

Don't remember ever going into an opening day fixture with such uncertainty about the outcome....can't think of a possible result today that would shock me.

A repeat or a reverse of the 6-1 are both within scope imho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,014 ✭✭✭garra

Yeah, would love us to batter them. But if it is Lovren/Skrtel in defense I can see us conceding goals.

It'll be interesting to see what team Rodgers puts out. I think we have a lot of exciting players.

An old cliche but every game for this team is a must win. Rodgers career as LFC manager depends on it

Not really, he is unlikely to be fired after 1 match. A cup final is a must win, don't buy into the cliche.

He is in more of battle to convince the supporters he is the man and unite the fan base than please FSG. A bad performance and equally bad result today will ramp up the pressure going into what is a very tough set of opening fixtures.

Rodgers coming out and saying the 6-1 loss was worst in his career - Sacking his assistants - players coming out and saying they need to make ammends - perfect opportunity to avenge that defeat and so on ...

The attitude of the players. The way they go about their business. All the things we question about our players from mental strength to ruthlessness to achieve a goal are brought into this single game. This game is different from all other opening day games simply because of the fixture and what it means to those players.

Even at my level, i'd be chomping at the bit to return some pride. So i expect us maybe not so much to win - but to go out and earn some respect. To compete every challenge and to give 100%. The result should be a formality if they can do that. I'm not just expecting a good performance ... i'm demanding it.

Yeah I know all that but if we draw today it won't be a catastrophe, ie it's not a must win.

Its more of a "we must fight like warriors" after the shambolic 6:1. If we lose due to a lack of fire in the belly then I will not post again until Rodgers is replaced

Feck, never heard a peep from him about any of this, minus the Anton Court Case.
“I’ve been through probably the most traumatic four years of my life,” he reflected. “I lost my mum. I lost my dad. I split up from the woman I loved for 23 years. I had a court case, two Old Bailey trials over six weeks with my son who was charged with sexual assault, which was an absolute disgrace. Yet professionally, here and at Swansea, these have been the best four years of my life.

So it's not a must win game we have hard start to the season the excuses are being made for Rodgers and the team already before a ball is even kicked.

It is a must win game today for the players and the manger to show the fans they have pride after the game last season and to get this season off to a good start.

With the tough opening games so what if we want to be taken seriously as a top team we shouldn't be worried about who we are playing they should be worried about playing Liverpool.

We need to get that fear factor back and winning these opening games is a good start in getting it back.

Awaits Mike to tell Gerrard to feck off.

I'm confident, Rodgers got us to 6th last season with no strikers no goals, how can we not improve a few places? It would be shocking to take a step backwards from last season. I expect 3 steps forward that we are competing for top 3 spots in league.

Stop with the BS cliches lads, must win game my bollocks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,222 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

We can now make mistakes are back, like we did when we nearly won league and still win games 3-1, instead of losing 1-0.
Goals win games, and we have serious threats now unlike last season.

Dirk scored a penalty on his 2nd debut for Feynoord yesterday.

    He's been made their Captain.
