    Christ on a bike.

And so closes mayweathers career, a career based on two world level talents, boxing and winding people up.

No way will this be his last fight. It is on his current contract, but he will go for one more to get to 50-0.

Mayweather is an embarrassment to the sport i have no interest in him anymore.

Joke. Is he obliged to see out that 6 fight showtime contract? He'd be better off retiring if he's not, he's clearly not bothered with boxing anymore.

Such a drastic change. Going from the biggest fight in history to this.

He is definitely mothering that record of his at this stage of his career, taking on someone like Khan is clearly very risky.

How ironic would it be then if Berto beats him, it will have to be a sub-zero day in hell for that to happen though.

You can be sure Danny Garcia will be fight 50 too now that he's a 147er

    I dont blame him.

220 million in his last fight.

How can you find motivation. Seeing out his contract . No issues with it

Ive actually been thinking about this and it annoys me that his last fight is referred to as the biggest fight in history.. will people remember this fight in 10-20 years etc..outside of the numbers it was a massive dissapointment and imo a bit of stroke pulled by all parties.

When i think of the biggest fights i instantly think "rumble in the jungle" or "the thriller in manilla"..will documentaries be made about the mayweather v pacman fight in the same way...im not sure about it to be honest.

Biggest hype job/con job in history. Nothing more.

Biggest fight in history from a media and commercial point of view. But yeah the media influence is telling so it's no surprise it's named that and still probably will be.

Only referring to the numbers, in no way was the fight a classic.

Would of been great to see Frampton v Santa Cruz on the undercard

Oh i know and my post wasnt a dig at you, just annoys me when that joke of a fight can be called the biggest ever fight due to PPV buys and the wall to wall media coverage.

My two brothers are boxing coaches and often they'll find themselves having to defend their sport against people banging on about MMA being the "superior" sport.....only then to have to endure this kind of farce.

Fair play to Floyd, he's nothing to prove, but I'm looking forward to the press tour when he has to defend this decision with a straight face.

good article in the guardian today calling it a farce

Beyond giving a sh*t at this stage. At the end of the day Mayweather's legacy is one of the better ones in boxing, but with his talent and ability and work ethic he could have been the greatest of all time. Him fighting Berto is a pretty clear statement, there are umpteen tasty fights he could be in at this stage and this is the one he picks? He could tackle welterweights Amir Khan, Tim Bradley or Keith Thurman. If he was really ballsy he could step up and engage in a super fight with Gennady Golovkin. Instead we see him trying to sell us a farce against a failed, limited fighter who is coming off three losses, including one to one of Mayweather's most uninspiring opponents, Guerrero. F*ck that, I won't be buying it and anyone who does is a fool.

Fair enough he recently silenced critics, fought the Fighter of the Decade and won. However, and all credit to Mayweather for winning, its hardly something we'll all be watching ten years from now on YouTube. I'll still be watching Hearns and Hagler, Tyson highlight reels and Castillo Corrales. I won't be watching MayPac bore fest to be honest. As I said above, Floyd is undoubtedly one of the best boxers to get in the ring, but nowhere near the greatest. Duran came up from lightweight and fought everybody and anybody, didn't give a f*ck, if you were in his orbit he'd fight you. Pacquiao hopped off everyone and had some epic wars, Leonard, Hearns, Ali, Robinson etc; the list goes on.

An 0 counts for little, putting yourself out there and delivering the ageless, classic, fights - win or lose, that's what makes you the greatest. Floyd hasn't done that and has taken the p*ss with this latest offering.

its a disappointing match to say the least for mayweather i had hoped he would have chosen Khan

In relation to FTAs comment about Floyd silencing critics by beating Manny. I actually think that whole sorry saga is a big sleight on Floyd's career. Ducking and avoiding meeting a blown up FW for the best part of 6 years. That is what happened. I can understand Floyd maybe not wanting to meet young and natural WWs today, but the Manny affair is nothing of note on his ledger. It really weakens his claim to be TBE, a claim that for me was always well off the mark

The fact every anti Floyd guy has bought into the whole "Manny was injured so it doesn't count and if he was 100% he would have won" doesn't help his case either.

In fairness, there's at least a twinge of sadness looking at a lot of very brave fighters fortunes in later years. Moseley, toney, joe Frazier Ali etc...

Think what you like about floyd but he'll retire with his faculties intact and be able to enjoy his life post boxing (in a physical/mental sense anyway). In reality that's worth more than a thousand hall of fame legacies...

That's true, but a separate kind of debate.

Ah yeah but I'm just making the point that generally the all action, fight all comers career can come at a cost. Boxing has a weird way of destroying its former legends physically/mentally/financially. Floyd should avoid that fate or at least have as good a chance as anybody of doing it. While I'm sure it means a lot to the families of those damaged fighters that they are held in esteem by fight fans, but I'm sure they'd rather their loved one is healthy. After all a career is about providing for you and yours first...

But there are still plenty of greats who are fit and healthy later in life who took a hell of a lot more punishment than Floyd and some other more rig savvy fighters.

That's certainly true too, but none of them will have been rewarded financially like mayweather It's a strange one, the idea of 'greatness'... Means different thing to different people I suppose.

While floyd often talks about being the greatest ever etc, I'm unconvinced it matters a damn to him, I'd be more inclined to believe it's part of his schtick, getting people to buy his fights to see him ko'd. And maybe that's the point. The man is almost universally despised in boxing circles and by the general public, hasn't been involved in an entertaining fight in a decade yet he'll walk away with half a billion dollars in his back pocket and hardly so much as a leather burn on him, having made a lot of hall of fame fighters look average. That is a weird greatness all of its own and pretty much unprecedented across all sports.

In saying all this i certainly agree with anybody who would say that we probably never saw the best of floyd, or that he was anything other than highly selective in choosing his opponents. I'd also add that the worst thing for fight fans was floyd not getting beat early doors. Without that 0 we might have seen an altogether different fighter, but sadly we'll never know;)

Mayweather fighting Berto who is 3-3 in his last 6 fights, even losing to Soto Karass for f*** sake. Berto has never once belonged near the P4P rankings, not even close.

I think it just exposes what Mayweather is all about in fighting Berto; avoiding the big fights. We saw it for years with Pacquiao when Mayweather refused to fight him, offering him a flat 40 million dollar fee and nothing else, he knew Pacquiao wouldn't accept it. Now he's dodging Thurman, Khan, Brook to fight the shot and faded Berto.

That Mayweather has the neck to charge $75 bucks to watch this fight in HD is really pushing things, I hope it sells a fair bit less than 500,000 buys which i'm sure it will.

I think they are the fan boys to be fair. I prefer Manny to MW but weather injured or not, that fight would have went the same way.
