Have been to the physio and the advice is rest for a week or two minimum, and get an X-ray to see what's going on. By the end of that there won't be enough time to build up the long runs, even if the news is good. Putting this together with the rib-interruptions too much time and fitness has been lost.

So going to have to hold off on the marathon till 2016. Will keep an eye on the thread anyway to make sure none of you are running the long runs too fast ;) ...

Ah, truly sorry to read this but with a run streak of bad luck and issues with toes and ribs you are making the right call. Never mind the stress of looking at the plan and stressing over runs and sessions missed.

Hoping to hit the PP for my run in the morning so will drop into the visitors centre cafe if times link up!

Sorry to hear this but sounds like a sensible call, good luck with your training and getting back to full fitness.

No stress at *all* - I was dying to get stuck into it! Anyway I'll make do with the bike and the pool in the meantime.

Aw really sorry to hear this hilly but like you said, the decision has been made for you in a way. We really can all learn a lot from you. The philosophical way you accept your knockbacks and plough on with the bigger picture always in mind is a lesson for us all.
And yes, don't you dare be a stranger here, who else is going to be our blister expert, gear guru and general whip cracker for those pesky metric heads?! We need you!!
Let us know how the xray goes won't you?
And yes, you may have lost some strength and endurance lately but don't forget, you only have to tap on your banked work for it to come flooding back once you're able to train consistently when you have the all clear.

Hahaha, I'm not sure that's a compliment !! It's just that I'm getting so used to it  ...

Ah, it's gone now. 8 weeks of scrappy running already and a couple of weeks fully off (at least) to come. But can build it up again. Whenever. Going to just do exactly what I'm told...

Hi folks... family commitments mean I need to do my lsr early tomorrow (7:00am) so I won't be able to meet up at 9:30 with the rest of you.

I still intend to do mine in the Phx Pk, so it's possible I may actually bump into you as I finish. I'll probably be parked up in the visitors car park.

Saturday 8th August LSR - Phoenix Park

Just a to confirm that Saturday's LSR is going ahead and will be in line with the provisional plans which were posted previously.

LSR- This is not a race! This is a friendly meet up with other novices and will be treated as our long slow run for the weekend. No one will be left behind.

Location- We are meeting in the Phoenix Park in the car park at the Visitor Centre. It is well signposted and is accessed from the road at the Phoenix monument. It is also known as Ashtown Castle and has a cafe for post run tea and scones. Note this is the cafe and carpark in the north west of the park not the tea rooms beside the zoo. Maps are available on line.

Pace- DG has covered this and will depend on who turns up on the day, but as stated, this is an LSR day.

Route- To get the miles in the route will largely follow the perimeter and Chesterfield Avenue area of the park. This will give some familiarity for the Frank Duffy, Half marathon and Full marathon.

Timing- We will meet at 9.30 and head off by 9.45 sharp. As there will be various groups and various speeds we will try to meet up at approximately the same time to have tea at the cafe. If you have family meeting with you, I would guess the rv will be around mid day.

Kit and Extras- This will be a long run so please bring your usual comforts including water and gels etc. You will be expected to be self sufficient in this respect. The weather looks promising at present, but as we are going for tea you should bring a warm top to change into on completion of the run. At present, the fairly reliable yr.no forcast has a temperature range of 11 degrees heating up to 18 degrees, so pick your clothes carefully. You may wish to bring extra water and food which can be left in the cars. Please bring a few euro for your tea/coffee etc. Foam rollers are optional!

Yet to be decided- On arrival and depending on numbers, we could drive out and hide a water cache on the route. This can be arranged on the day and should take no more than 10 minutes if needed. I defer to the mentors for their thoughts on this.

I think that is most areas covered. Please feel free to add any ideas. Also feel free to bring your non boardsie running pals. We can recruit them on the day!

Sorry to hear that Hilly :(

Am still on for the morning. Any idea of route yet? I'd prefer not to carry water but I'll need it to take my gels so was hoping to stash it.

Thanks PJD and Dubgal for organising, am really looking forward to it!

Just back from this weeks 14M LSR - the first 8M of which were ran in the presence of our fabulous mentor Dubgal - she makes running look so easy! It's sooo much more pleasant to run together and chat the miles away. I was even allowed to talk about kilometre pace (once)! :) The last lone 6M were noticeably harder (and slower). Nice to meet you and many thanks for running with me. :)

    23km @ 6:01 min/km [14.4M @ 9:40 min/mi]

Good luck with the LSRs in the Phoenix Park (and elsewhere) this weekend! I'm off on me holidays

Can perfectly understand your reason to defer till '16. Like DG says ... you will have something in the bank. Take care and recover well.

Can't make the park tomorrow but enjoy it those who can.

Guys my LR pace is slower than anyone else running tomorrow. I don't want to be that person holding others up so I'll probably just bow out gracefully.

I might try make it for tea though :)

Aw shame :( We won't let anyone run alone so have another think. You know I'm going to be cracking that 'go slower whip' tomorrow anyway :D:D

I was keeping an eye to see if anyone was around the same but I'm running on HR at the minute and that could be between 11 & 12 depending on the day. It's hard enough to run that slow when you're meant to be Nevermind when you're much faster than that.

    PJD | | 10m/mi |
    FeenaM| | 9/10m/mi
    Wolfyboy|10-11m/mi?

So this is what the grouping could look like:
(We'll all start off together for the first mile.)

    Group 1:
Mrs Mc is doing two miles earlier and will join Toulouse and wolfyboy for 12 miles.

    Group 2:
Neil, Singer, Denis, PJD and FeenaM will go on to do the 14 mile route, starting at the slower end of the range/10m/mi + pace. So Singer and FeenaM, you might wonder if you'll get the full benefit from a slower pace....trust me, you will.

It's a social run with the emphasis on running together, having a chat and a bit of craic and making the miles fly in. It really works, I ran with nop today and couldn't believe how quickly 65 minutes went.

Looking forward to it! See you tomorrow.

Whoopsa I'm the slower end of the 14 milers I am going to head over a bit earlier and get 2 miles done before we head off so I'm not way behind everyone. What's your pace ? Mine is between 11.05 and 11.51 range averaged 11.20 on my last run.

Oh well that'd be ideal for me then if you're sure.
