Think that will be my pace on the big day too - we'll have to exchange race numbers so we recognise each other!

Still gonna race the HM in Sept though.

Sure! We will probably meet in the pub after anyways! Company is always good for keeping you going too.

Hi hilly, any updates? Good call on bailing btw :)

Not looking too great at this stage.... the foot is continuing to give trouble. Did 6miles including 5x650m on Tuesday and though it was *horrific* fitness-wise (first "session" in 8 weeks) the foot held up well till near the end. Was ok to do 5miles Wednesday but there was grumbling throughout the run and like you I skipped the strides at the end. And it was sore afterwards :( ... so I booked myself in with a physio for Friday lunchtime.

The foot was not too bad walking around yesterday evening (without any ice) and this morning (after ice), so I actually went out and made a start on today's MLR. This wasn't for the purposes of "getting the miles in", I want to be sure that the foot does not calm too much before tomorrow's appointment  (rest and icing tends to calm it down). I want to have a bit of swelling to show tomorrow. Anyway I stayed close to base with the promise that I'd stop if it felt worse than during yesterday's run, and it did .... so a 2mile MLR.

I had a full week of almost no running (2.5 miles) during the food poisoning, and I was not walking much either during that time, and the problem came back when I started running again ... so I expect this will take a while to sort out. Most likely no autumn marathon. I'll survive, main thing for me is to minimise the time out...

Hoping that tomorrow will bring a more specific diagnosis, and a list of instructions of what to do and not do. I'd nearly be relieved to be told to take 2 weeks off as it'd settle things one way.

2:15 or so would be my marathon pace.

Are you sure you're a novice??
That's less than a minute slower than the time that won the race last year.....:pac:

:( sorry to hear that, Hillside. I noticed the 5 and 6M entries in the spreadsheet and had assumed you were doing fine..

If I'm in Dublin for that I was gonna suggest the last 20miles of the DCM route if a group was meeting up!

Just checked the route, it would mean starting at Castleknock Gate. Good plan. Let's check closer to the time - but I'd be up for it.

Saturday 8th August LSR - Phoenix Park

Just a to confirm that Saturday's LSR is going ahead and will be in line with the provisional plans which were posted previously.

LSR- This is not a race! This is a friendly meet up with other novices and will be treated as our long slow run for the weekend. No one will be left behind.

Location- We are meeting in the Phoenix Park in the car park at the Visitor Centre. It is well signposted and is accessed from the road at the Phoenix monument. It is also known as Ashtown Castle and has a cafe for post run tea and scones. Note this is the cafe and carpark in the north west of the park not the tea rooms beside the zoo. Maps are available on line.

Pace- DG has covered this and will depend on who turns up on the day, but as stated, this is an LSR day.

Route- To get the miles in the route will largely follow the perimeter and Chesterfield Avenue area of the park. This will give some familiarity for the Frank Duffy, Half marathon and Full marathon.

Timing- We will meet at 9.30 and head off by 9.45 sharp. As there will be various groups and various speeds we will try to meet up at approximately the same time to have tea at the cafe. If you have family meeting with you, I would guess the rv will be around mid day.

Kit and Extras- This will be a long run so please bring your usual comforts including water and gels etc. You will be expected to be self sufficient in this respect. The weather looks promising at present, but as we are going for tea you should bring a warm top to change into on completion of the run. At present, the fairly reliable yr.no forcast has a temperature range of 11 degrees heating up to 18 degrees, so pick your clothes carefully. You may wish to bring extra water and food which can be left in the cars. Please bring a few euro for your tea/coffee etc. Foam rollers are optional!

Yet to be decided- On arrival and depending on numbers, we could drive out and hide a water cache on the route. This can be arranged on the day and should take no more than 10 minutes if needed. I defer to the mentors for their thoughts on this.

I think that is most areas covered. Please feel free to add any ideas. Also feel free to bring your non boardsie running pals. We can recruit them on the day!

    Thanks for organising P

    Good stuff on organising.
When we did these runs in past years we normally just looped back by the cars at halfway to grab a drink.

Good luck with it, hopefully catch up for one of these in future.

I'd be up for that, although it'd be a point to point, so might be logistically difficult.

For the 20 miler ...could make it easier and go for a 9:45 start at the Castleknock gate given that not too many of us will get through there any quicker than that on the day. I'm using a water belt for the long runs so no need for loops back to my car. All going well will finish at Merrion Sq so should be plenty of public transport options then or else a few grab a taxi back to our cars in the park. Getting to the start is a challenge but hopefully doable!

So I bought the high 5 marathon pack in lidl at the weekend. I have never used gels before ( lots of other stuff in there too) and am thinking of trying them out on my 12 mile run on Saturday. At what stage should I take one or would I be better waiting for a longer run.?

You might be as well to take your first gel on the 12 miler just to see if it agrees with your stomach.

There's a tree at the bottom of the visitors centre ave at the aras junction that we used to stash bottles/gels etc, they were never touched and it saves you having to go right back up to the car park (although the extra miles might come in handy!!) I can't make this one either after all, hope it goes well and enjoy :)

Thats what I was thinking I may need to do loops in case of an emergency lol. Dying to try out my new water belt too.

Emsy I was the same last week had 13 miles to do and never took gel before. Tried a few different things in prep for big day last Sunday. Tried a kinetica berry gel 1 and half hours into the run husbands advice in relation to timing of it (didn't need it but wanted to see how the stomach reacted) was fine. I also wore a belt with two small bottles (put small dash of Ribena in the water) on it and it was very comfortable so will continue to use that as I had the safety of having a zipped pouch on the belt carrying my gel, tissue and my emergency five euro !! Also got up at 7 had my porridge in prep for run at 9.30 - stomach fine during run. Had a berrocca boost with breakfast for extra energy. All in all it all worked well run went well. So will try again this week as standard for LSR. One thing that didn't work (or maybe worked too well !!!) was having coffee with my breakfast at 7. Too harsh on the stomach ! So that's gone from the list!!!

The previous weekend LSR was really warm drank both bottles tried to alternate each bottle so the weight was even .... Is that ridiculous ???? But last weekend the weather was cooler and rained for some time so only had half out of each .... Forgot to say also had a protein drink when I came in have tried that or chocolate yahoo milk after run.

Hello! This sounds lovely! Just another point, and not sure if this has changed in recent months, the last time I was in the visitors' centre cafe (which is lovely! Enjoy yourselves!) it didn't accept cards, so bring a bit of actual cash!

I've never run with other people other than in races! I suppose I'll have to ease off on the dirty tricks (pretending to wear headphones and wandering across other runners, sudden stopping, tripping people up etc.).

Looking forward to tomorrow anyway :) - that cafe is quite nice too.

I went there a couple of weeks ago and they do accept cards now. Suppose it's to cater for the truckloads busloads of tourists pouring in.
