Aerial Nut won't thread

I have a SAAB 9-3 and replaced the aerial with this kit.

When I tried to put the nut back on that holds the aerial to the base I cannot get it to thread at all. Any ideas of ways to get it back on?

Maybe you could Frankenstein bits of the old aerial on?

    What exactly does that mean?

Does the nut belong to the new aerial or the old one?

    Is it the correct thread?

Its the same thread, this nut came from the screw. Looks like thread might be slightly damaged

So, original nut and thread. I'd the thread is slightly damaged you m may be able to clean it up with a tap and die set. Correct size die, little oil and go slowly. Back it off if the die feels stuck

Thanks, I'll see if I can find a tap and die set somewhere nearby that is cheap enough.

They're a handy thing to have, but if you just want to get this job done, check with neighbours etc for a loan
