Retention for semi-finished granny flat

    Hi, wondering if any of you have advice - looking to buy a house with a semi-finished granny flat - the structure itself was built 15 years ago, but was recently semi-converted but still not to spec.
    Modifications are only on the inside (a bit of plumbing etc)
    Would there be any difficulties getting planning permission for retention as a shed/storage and then to follow on for the full conversion planning application at a later date?

    Depends on what's there now, size, position, area etc
    It will a.aus be just a domestic shed until you join it to the house though.

    It won't be adjoining the house itself.

    Then it will never get permission and never be classed as a granny flat.
    It will just be a domestic shed.

    My thinking is to apply for retention as a shed - and then as a granny flat at a later date. Would that fly?

    Nope. A granny flat by the nature is an extension to the main dwelling. Unless it can be adequately connected to the main dwelling and it's use is ancillary to the main dwelling it won't fly.

    I'm doing one at the moment. Exact process that you are describing and they have been refused the granny flat element as it is 6m from the main dwelling.
