    Hi,

I have a Ford Focus 1.8 TDI (08'). I had the thermostat replaced about 18-24 months ago, dropped it in for a service and the bloody thing is gone again! This seems to be a common problem from researching (i.e. googling :) ) . Could there be other issues here causing this or am I victim to a poorly designed part/engine?

    thanks
    Jon

They can give up like that, I wouldn't worry so long as there are no other issues.

Was the temperature ok prior to the failure? Just make sure it's not overheating after you get the new one fitted. Overheating for other reasons could contribute to it's failure.

Also make sure you are running the right coolant mix (the thermostat wasn't corroded by just running water).

    Hi,

Yes it was running fine. Didn't notice any odd temperature readings on the dial. I'm just frustrated because I had a known issue i needed to get fix and then they found this nice surprise :)

I need to get the other things done so i'll leave the replacement till next month (spread the cost) and keep an eye on the coolant in the mean time.

    cheers!
