    Hi,

I am looking into the idea of cycling home (solo) to Dublin from Spanish Point in Clare after a short family break.

At approx. 260km I'll have to do an overnight along the way. So, can anybody suggest a route to take and where would you recommend to spend the overnight?

    Thanks in advance.
    MrM

The routes on Google maps seem reasonable. click on the bike icon.

The N66 from Gort to Loughrea is much improved, it's been widened a bit and asphalt surface now for much of the route.
The route through Portumna has a few more hills

Tullamore is the obvious overnight place, although Banagher has a few places to stay and Houghs bar for a pint.

The route through East Clare to Portumna and onwards is quite scenic (if you don't mind the East Clare hills). You'd get to Birr after about 120km which would be a good place to overnight, then another 140km home the following day.

If you want to avoid the hills then go with Carawaystick's suggestion above.

    Nice idea anyway, enjoy it.

Hi Guys - appreciate the feedback!!

Will look into the route on maps over the weekend and decide on one - certainly taking your suggestions into account.

The brother cycled 12,500km solo through Africa a year ago so I'm planning a mini adventure of my own. I'll leave Spanish point on the Monday and hope to arrive back in Dublin on the Tuesday night. The wife thinks I'm cycling to the train and back in work Tues morn :O.

    Thanks
