is there such a type of angle iron?

I know most angle irons seem to be 2x2 1x1 etc. can one get angle iron say 9x3? so that one side would be 9 inchs wide and the other end would be 3 inchs wide?

There's a piece at home about 9x4 I don't know where it came from but sizes like that must be available. Try heitons they should know.

Ya, you can get them all sizes. They're called 'Unequal Angles';

Migth be hard to get some sizes in stock, but I'd say they could order for you.
