Crespo? Don't really see him making too many inroads straight off. Defence for me is still Amavi, Clark, Richards and Hutton with their places to lose. The attacking positions are the much bigger conundrum right now but it is a conundrum I'm very happy with!!!

Seeing as you're going with Costa, Rooney, Hazard, Courtois, Darmian which is taking up 44 million from 5 players, I'd suggest dipping into the value players out there rather than splashing out another 8.5 on Mata, 9 on Giroud and Alderweireld for5 when there'd be players out there for less who'd have just as much point potential.

You could then use that money you've saved to flesh out the squad because you won't get far with Ki, Wanyama, Taylor, Baker.

    thanks for the feedback, appreciated

First rushed draft, not taking into account fixtures or anything. Might look into downgrading Mignolet, bringing Wisdom in for Turner when he moves there, or something.

    Last one of the day

Silva is costing me a lot - Sterling and Yaya are cheaper options which would free up cash. Yaya would give me enough cash to bring Pelle back in.

Do you plan on using Dier.

He has Vertogen, Toby Alderweireld and Fazio and possibly the other new guy - Wimmer ahead of him at CB.

He has played RB s few times but not since Walker returned from a long term injury and now Trippier is ahead of him in that position too.

Couldn't remember the name yeah. Read something somewhere saying he'd be fighting it out with Hutton for RB but looking at ffs you're spot on I'd say.

Forgot about Alderweireld, tbh. I'll change that for sure now.

Ok, time to post my team and get some feedback.

    Courtois --- Elliot

    Skrtel --- Mertesacker --- Bassong --- O'Shea --- S. Taylor

    Hazard --- Ozil --- Mata --- Ki --- Westwood

    Costa --- Benteke --- Sahko

    Itb: 2.0m

Courtois: A good way into the Chelsea defence. Will cover any clean sheets that chelsea get. Obviously won't get any attacking returns like Ivan will, but is a useful 1.5m cheaper.

Elliot: A low-ownership 4.0m GK. (sidenote: Schwarzer is highly owned - 10%. Am I missing something? Will he start?)

Skrtel: A guaranteed starter for Liverpool. Didn't score too many goal last year, but scored 7 the year before. Finished the season strongly last season, so hoping this continues.

    Mertesacker:
Not certain on him. Have 5.5m to spend here. Ars, Liv and Manu all have a similar start (over say 8/10 games). Have 2 slots for 2 5.5m players. So essentially its a choice of 2 of Skrtel, Mert, Bellerin, Shaw or Jones. Mert is currently the highest owned of these players, so will stick with him for the moment.

O'Shea, Bassong, S. Taylor: Sund and Norwich have good opening fixtures and rotate pretty well (though not perfectly). O'Shea is 4.5m, and is a guaranteed starter for SUN, so he's in. Bassong I need to double check, but I'm pretty certain off the top of my head that he's a guaranteed starter, so he's also in.
Adding a newcastle defender to these 3 helps the fixtures, and give me an opening first 10 games of: CRY NOR STO ast BOU WAT whm LEI NOR NEW. Going with S. Taylor is a bit of a risk, as he's not a guaranteed starter, but even without him O'Shea and Bassong have good enough fixtures, and based on what I've been reading on here there's and off chance he'll start.

    Hazard: No explanation needed

Ozil: I feel and Arsenal mid is necessary. Cazorla is very highly owned (double Ozil or Walcott), so has the potential to do damage. Walcott is very dangerous - I've owned him quite a bit in the past. But I'm going with Ozil as I feel he's guaranteed gametime that Walcott isn't beyond the first few GWs.

Mata: I'm really not certain on this. I don't have Rooney, and feel I need some United coverage, as I feel they will improve on last season. Depay is an option, obviously, but I feel I'd rather give him a few games. Although I will monitor him in friendlies.

Ki: Bit of a risk here, but need a budget mid, and Ki scored 7 goals from December on last season, 8 in total. Not many mids scored more than that . I'm hoping he'll continue that into the new season.

Westwood: Not certain about this one, but some 4.5m mid will be in this spot!

Costa: Started last season brilliantly, so hoping he does the same this season. Have 2.0m in the bank to upgrade to Aguero when the time is right.

Benteke: Personally this he's a brilliant player, capable of scoring all kinds of goal. Did very well for a utterly useless Villa team.

Sahko: Seems to be the best option in this price bracket considering West Ham favourable opening home fixtures.

    Pros:
    - Eack 'line' is well balanced - a mix of cheap, mid-priced and expensive players
    - A pretty good spread of coverage across the top clubs (though not perfect).
    - 2.0m in the bank to upgrade to Aguero.

    Cons:
    - No city players. However their opening few games aren't great, and I have the funds for Kun.
    - Ki is a risk. Would rather Hendo/Milner, and the 2.0m in the bank is very tempting!

    Opinions?

    I'm torn between

    Sterling & Lakaku = 17
    Or
    Deepay (?) And Benteke = 17

Would also like to upgrade Alderwood.

Using my phone so don't know how to upload the photo as a screen shot?

Apparently Lukaku picked up a knock, so on that basis I'd go Depay and Benteke. If you got 4.5m defender for Alderweireld, you could get Benteke in for Lukaku.

I would be left very short at the back then I think.
    6.0, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5, 5.0

Right now I have a strong 1.2.4.3. But outside of Costa I don't have many captain options.

I disagree, that's 24.5m. That's probably about average, if not slightly higher. I've spent 24.0m. Have a look back through some of the teams in this thread, some are probably as low as 22.0m. Don't forget, you also have Courtois in goal who will cover Chealseas clean sheets.

Sorry that should be - 6,4.5,4.5,4.5,4=23.5

FFS my whole team revolved around Lukaku first game and then Kane in to sub. Ah well back to the drawing board. Will Naismith replace Lukaku?

Just go with Kane from the start and save yourself a sub. I'm not a fan of starting with a planned transfer.

    Goalkeepers
Ruddy - probably be number 1 for me all season depending on how they do the first while.
    Alex McCarthy as backup.

    Defenders
Clyne - guaranteed starter although .5 dearer than Moreno/Sahko. May downgrade depending on how Rodgers lines up as I quite like Moreno when they use 3 CB's.

Yoshida - cheap option for Southampton who are a bit light at the back. Have nice fixtures and he has scored a few last year and in preseason

Huth - Did quite well for Leicester and probably one of their better defenders. I want Fuchs given his quality at set pieces but Schlupp did quite well last year so pretty much waiting to see who Ranieri prefers at LB

Mings - Record signing for Bournemouth and very highly rated by Ipswich fans ( and obviously Bournemouth). Hopefully can make the transition to the premier league smoothly.

Coates - Advocaat seemed to like Coates and he did quite well when he got in the team. Sunderland have decent fixtures at first so going to risk Coates.

    Midfield
Ozil - has his off days but is quality when he needs to be. Switching him and Cazorla like crazy - probably my biggest headache.

Sterling - doing well in pre season and can see him being nailed on starter. If he starts well he should rake up points.

Milner - again, not sure between him and Henderson. Another one I'm going to look at but would be happy with both.

Fabregas - pretty self explanatory, assist machine.

Anya - quick direct player, should get a few assists. Mostly be used for the simpler home games.

    Strikers
    These are pretty explanatory

    Rooney, Benteke & Costa.

    Thoughts?

    Current draft

    Panti/Krul

    Yoshida STaylor Mings Huth Ward
    Sterling Ozil Milner Hazard Redmond
    Rooney Costa Ighalo

    .5 in the bank.

Trying to keep 2m in the bank so can upgrade Costa to Aguero but it's a struggle.

Very very light in defens/goal. There were periods last year after Champions League or internationals where the big teams were pretty limp and very little point scoring.
A friend of mine who I used to slag would put out 4-5 defenders and rake in a reliable amount of points that ultimately won it for him. This year I'm going tobtry and concentrate a bit more on defense.

Skrtel - I'd wait and see if Liverpool are 'stable' first. Maybe use a West Brom defender for the Phone effect.
The Arsenal midfield is this years gamble. I'm going with Walcott. He finished last year brilliantly.
If Arsenal don't buy a striker Girou will also be a good option.
Maybe better 4.5 priced midfield options. Lots of threads on this alone.

    latest incarnation
GK : ruddy butland ( was tempted just to go ruddy and Rudd.......but Butland will cover ruddys tough gw4 and 6 fixtures)
D: Ivan Mert Cedric Huth Mulumbu...........Had my heart set on Kos but looking at last years points used the .5 to get Butland ...........I also wanted Shaw but would mean 2 non playing 4ml defenders so im going for a 5ml /4.tml rotation. Southampton/Leic seems a good one even though I know nothing about Cedric!
M : Hazard Walcott Ozil Ritchie Mulumbu..........still tempted by Depay or Mata instead of Ozil.......3 arsenal players may be too much
F : Rooney Beneteke Sahko..........for GW1 I am very tempted to have Lukaku in for Benteke and then bring him in from GW2 on.........but its prob a waste of a transfer and its LUKAKAU .......of course if Costa is out then Falcao........

Anyway Im edging closer to the finished product but would appreciate any feedback

Very similar team to mine. Same keepers, same strikers same midfield expect I have Mane instead of Ritchie. You've spent more on defence than me though. (I'm on Shaw, 5.0, 3 x 4.5)

I like your team but I may be biased because it's so similar to mine.

This seems to get tougher every year, first draft. Any thoughts lads?

    Krul/Speroni

    Bellerin/Clyne/Azpuilliceta/Richards/
    Cedric

    Hazard/Silva/Ramsey/Chadli/Anya

    Benteke/Lukaku/Berahino

For me the overall balance is off, I'd have less money tied up in defence and use it upgrade the frontline.

I had mane in my team for a long time ......but his 8 ml price is awkward if he starts off with one of his barren spells!
I could and still might switch ozil to mane and keep the .5 to allow a transfer up .......he is an explosive player no doubt about it

    Goalkeepers - Mignolet & Butland
Defenders - Huth, Ivanovic, Merte, Smith, Clyne
Mid - Depay, Silva, Hazard, Cabaye, Milner
Forward - Rooney , Defoe, Grabban.
    Thoughts??

2nd Draft. Bit more balanced, and brought Silva in for Sanchez. Not sure on Lescott, but I'll keep an eye on any movements such as Caulker to Southampton.

Ruddy and Butland for rotation, Kelly/Coates for Lescott, and Ki for Zaha.

    Any suggestions?

Ok changed things a wee bit from my last team

1 attacking player from each of last years top 6
    Budget defence, other than Courtois
Proven FPL players for the most part

As before, I like to start conservatively. No mad differentials, while I've a couple of new signings, the likes of Sterling, Benteke and Cabeye are not new to the EPL.

Not 100% sure about that defence, may downgrade Cabaye and get in Mertesacker.

    Thoughts?

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test
