Cecil The Lion RIP

A lot of outrage over the killing of Cecil the lion by some American dentist/hunter out in Zimbabwe.

Apparently, Cecil was something of a national icon and Zimbabwe wants to charge the dentist plus he's facing a lot of furore back home in America.

Personally, I think anyone who thinks its fun to spend thousands of dollars and travel half way around the world just to kill something has serious self-confidence issues. Does he think it makes him a big man because he killed something with a gun? That said, some of the furore is slightly too much, whilst I agree that animals do and must have rights and this incident is disgraceful, some of those attacking him are going slightly over-the-top in my opinion as it wasn't a human being he killed.

Not even a gun; a bow.

Bows are cool and all, but they're also nowhere near as efficient for killing as a gun is. Bowhunting is banned in the UK because it's considered cruel to the animal, so not only did he kill this lion, he caused it to suffer for, iirc, 40 hours before finishing it off.

He's also killed rhinos, because nothing says "I have a big penis, honest" faster than driving endangered animals further toward extinction.

He was killed for sport by some fat bastard who has as many brain cells as you do.

A twelve year old lion is at the end of its life anyway, quite possibly would have ended up being eaten alive by Hyenas.
Still yer man's an asshole, and probably looking for a new career somewhere that doesn't have an internet connection.

With a bow makes it even more disgraceful. As Kylith said, at least we know this particular dentist has a big cock now .

Being a dentist, he probably wanted a plaque...

But had he not been killed there's every chance his some/all of his 6 cubs could have grown to maturity. Little chance of that now, as they will likely be killed by the next lion down in the hierarchy so that he can produce his own.

I don't get this form of hunting, in fact I don't really get hunting as a "sport". But what is the point of having animals lined up for you to shoot? Why does it make him feel alive to do that?

A fúcking bow and arrow too.

What is cool about a bow?

I don't get the idea of "sport" hunting. These are endangered species.

He was shot first by the bow, so he was seriously injured and then tracked for 40 hours and then shot when exhausted.

Where is the skill or thrill in that? It's a totally unfair fight.

Why can't people just enjoy these animals as they are and observe them in their natural habitat and just shoot photos of them?

Seems to be a big thing for American dentists for some reason. Utter tool. Effective penis enhancement would surely reduce the numbers of these sort of muppets?

Bowhunting is truly beyond the Pale with it. Fine if your living in the bush and need to feed your family, but even there 99% would take a rifle if they had the choice. Plus hunter gatherers almost never target predators in the landscape. They make crap, even dangerous eating for a start and they have huge respect for them.

Bows are cool, that's just how it is. Compound bows aren't as cool as longbows though. I'm talking in an archery competition setting, or a display on a wall though, not in use.

The rest of your post I agree with 100%.

This type of person would write us all off as lefty pinko commies. It certainly won't do his business any good though.

    I agree.
I'm not a huge animal lover, But this was disgusting. You want to hunt a lion or big game. Then fcuk off out into the wilderness and track them on their own turf, take a clean shot and kill quickly to minimise suffering- then I might acknowledge you have some skill. A rich fcuker paying poachers to lay bait on your bonnet in order for you to badly shoot and wound an animal like this from the safety of your car is lazy and is NOT hunting. Its causing a long slow death and suffering. Something I doubt these 'hunters' will ever experience, but a girl can dream, eh?

I was going to start a thread on it this morning but the last few threads about dickhead American 'hunters' didn't end so well.

So....are we going to touch on the sensitive subject of Masai tribes butchering lions too?

    Nah, thought not.

No. We're going to continue talking about wealthy, educated people from the first world who like to unnecessarily kill endangered species for 'sport'.

I have zero problems with touching that subject. I think in this day and age when they're about as "tribal" as I am, all Made in China runners, mobile phones and headscarves for the tourists their "tradition" and "culture" on this matter can fcuk right off. Defending your herd against predator attack? Game ball. Hunting lions so you can carry their tail around? Primitive nonsense. Don't get me started on Arabs and Chinese who require animal parts to make their dick work leading the rhino to extinction, or morons who want ivory. Primitive windowlickers the lot of them.

So it's wrong to complain about an animal being killed for some prat's ego boost as long as someone somewhere is in a war zone, famine, etc?

@Wibbs Slightly ot but what you said caught my interest. Why does wild meat make for a poor or even dangerous meal? In my ignorance I would have assumed meat would have been the same whether wild or farmed, after all its the same species.

On another point, this hunting with bows is bullsh*t. I, personally, have zero inclination to kill a lion or any other animal, I prefer to buy my meat from the shop, but if I HAD to kill a lion you could be sure I'd be doing it with a gun. Why? Because if I miss I've got a better chance of letting off another shot before the yoke is too close to me to do anything. Shooting it with a bow suggests to me that he was doing it from a position where he was in absolutely zero danger, making him even more of a coward.

Well for the dangerous part: Spill blood and all the other predators will come running.

@Streetwalker Maybe if you'd bothered to read the opening post you'd have seen that I also criticised those who I felt had gone over-the-top in their reaction as it wasn't a human that had been killed.

    What are you on about?

Also, can you show me one incident of an animal going around killing people just for fun?

Oh they do sometimes but the point is we're human. We're supposed to be far more intelligent and not rely on killing and torturing animals for fun.

I don't think it was wild meat he was talking about as much as it was predator meat. Predators are, by definition, dangerous animals but apart from that they're not as good eating as herbivores are and the liver can contain toxic amounts of vitamin A.
