Sky broadband landline installation fee?

    Just moved home but there is no telephone line in the house. Interested in getting the Sky TV, broadband and talk package deal but don't want to pay for installation on the telephone line. I known competitors (Vodafone) offer it for free. Do sky also offer this?

    I believe sky will not install a line, they'll ask you get a line installed by someone else and then switch to them.

    The line ca and will be installed by sky (ordered by Sky from eircom who get KN to do installs I think) if possible.

    It's just that it can take a while as Sky have to get the incumbent (Eircom) to do it so that creates delays because obviously Eircom, who own the network, hardly want to help a rival.

    It can be as easy to get get Eircom to do it and then switch to Sky.

    first things first see what capacity is available in your area. I wanted to switch to Sky but can only get a max of 5Mbps down so I'm stuck with UPC for the forseeable.

    Eircom Wholesale are legally obliged to provide the same level of service to Sky and others as they do to Eircom Retail. They get fined (and have been) if they are proven not to.

    I think others on here have said that Sky just don't provide new phone lines, end of.

    Its sky cheaping out. The providers pay eircom wholesale the fee in order to do the provide, any provider can do so. The margins arent good enough for sky when you're paying off the install for the next year plus.

    True. Doesn't stop it happening.

    This is another reason. Nearly 2 years. But cross subsidising with TV helps.
