I want to change the diesel filter in my 2007 opel astra 1.3 cdti. Can anybody list the steps required and could I run into any problems with air in the fuel system afterwards. Would filling the filter with new diesel suffice. Also could you please list the tools required.

    Thanks

many thanks. My astra has a different fuel filter type to this one but I suspect that the principle is the same. Cheers

I think them engines in the Astra have a fuel filter element and metal filter housing op. Either way it's not a big job I had an Astra a few years ago with that engine and had no issue unscrew the screws lift cap swap the element ensuring it sits in correctly and make sure it's the exact same filter. Remove the old rubber seal on the cap and replace it. By right in order to do it correct you should remove the fuel in the housing before you put in the new filter if you do this you will need to fill back up the housing with new fuel. Then simply secure the cap and if you want to be extra sure turn on the ignition for a few seconds then turn it off and repeat a few times this runs the pump and primes up the system.

Granted it's a few years ago I replaced mine so can't fully remember but if there was anything unusual about replacing it I would have remembered but I stand to be corrected if anyone knows them a bit better.

That astra has a plastic filter housing.
Its used in a lot of fiats too.
You really need the correct tool for them.
it is possible to do it with a vice, hammer and screwdriver, but i would not recommend it,the housing is easily damaged and quite expensive to replace.

Hi my 1.3 diesel Opel Astra is lacking power when I put the foot down. It's slow to respond then when you wait a while it the shoots off like a rocket. Could this be related to an issue with the turbo.
