It's an homage to their founder, Madonna.

wouldn't blame them if they were. I can't think of a more boring job than working at a supermarket checkout.

    about what?

Do you ever talk to people in work? Thats what they're talking about (although in this instance its about their work, not yours).

    I think it's a pre-recording.
Track 1 is Check-Out Girls gossiping to each other.
Track 2 is being reprimanded and shouted at by a bullying, supermarket manager.

It's played on a loop. Enabling the staff to not have to look up from their work.

    1. Nobody wants Aongus.

    2. He's too busy with his headset.

I've worked front line (not in supermarkets) in various establishments, mostly warehouses, where a headset or some means of communication would be a fcking blessing.

Im sure others who have actually worked on their feet know the type of sht that goes down - someone gets a call with some bullsht saying oh I don't know ... the driver is in section 2000-Z and doesn't know how to open the gate or something.

Then its a senseless fcking drawn out ballet and circlejerk of telling douchebag 1 to go and get douchebag 2 cause douchebag 2 has the key, meanwhile douchebag 2 is on his way back already via a different route and the driver has figured out the gate is actually open and douchebag 3 has to go get douchebag 1 to tell him not to bother cause douchebag 2 blah blah blah ... and all through this there been 20 minutes of time used up and you've been running around trying to tell everyone to stop ... and then when you find douchbag 1 you get the 'no no but douchbag 3 told me the driver ... ' and you have to say 'yeah yeah I know but thats all changed now'. And in the meantime its probably reverted to the old problem and you can hear your name being called as douchbag 1 disappears.

I suggested some walkie talkies to one place when the management went around with their 'staff ideas' thing at a meeting, for the same reason ... people having to shout and run after people and spend the day chasing each other in a sort of industrialized special olympics .... and I got nothing but a funny look, then again this is Ireland and we've been gold medalists at that kind of thing for some time now.

From what I heard, Lidl pay their staff unbelievably well and treat them properly. Unlike a certain very well known Irish competitor ...

Do you know the way you get announcements over the intercom in some places, asking all operators to get back to the checkouts or whatever? I figure since Lidl don't seem to have a PA system these headsets are filling that role instead.

I've thought quite a bit about this.
