Would agree that the title is odd, it's manners that maketh man.

I've an unfortunate history with watches which has lead to me not wearing one now.

Aged 2 I buried my Dad's Omega on Curracloe beach.

Aged 21 I took off the Breitling Chronomat "knock off" my mum brought me back from New York when working behind a bar since I assumed the water proofing wouldn't be up to scratch on a knock off to deal with steam from glass washers. It disappeared from beside the till and a year or two later the identical "knock off" she'd bought for her god-son at the same time was identified as being genuine by a jeweller when he brought it into a family friend to get the battery changed.

I have a simple Victorinox wristwatch that was a birthday present from my mother but it stays in it's case at home. I rarely need a watch these days and after losing two watches that were worth four figures I'm not sure I can be trusted with one! :o

I dont wear one.. if I dont have a phone, pc or a car clock to refer to, I am generally pretty accurate guessing the time by looking at the length of shadows and the position of the sun. I can also navigate without a map when Im driving going by the sun's position.

So you must be perpetually lost then, since we only receive two hours of sunshine per year in Ireland.

That's what I thought too, even though I don't speak fluent binary.

Wouldn't mind an Android watch at some point in the future, at the moment they seem to limited in functions.

Have an SBH-50 that I use for controlling phone's basic functions and taking calls via bluetooth.

Although, the Asus Zenwatch 2 looks good.

I have a watch I bought for about 12 euros about 7 years ago.

It has never failed me and has even survived a wash cycle in a washing machine.

The brand is Q&Q, which I've never heard or seen before or since.

Once it fails, I'm thinking of a Seiko as they are good watches, but I'll try and keep this one going as long as possible. I owe it that much.

Speaking of watches, does anyone actually know what the bezel on a fancy man watch is supposed to do?

I used to just spin mine around instead of listening in economics class at school

I've been thinking about getting a nice, conservative (i.e. not flashy) rectangular face watch to go with my black suit, what would you folks recommend?

Can't go wrong with Seiko TBH. Lots of choice, mechanical or quartz, very good value, near bulletproof. Spending much more if looking to make a statement(mostly to oneself as nobody really notices) then Rolex would be the one to go for. Massively overpriced mind you and you better be sitting down when you send it for a service… Actually new mechanicals are a pain that way as servicing charges are major rip offs.

Depends on the bezel but most would be for marking off time intervals. For example on divers watches, so the diver would know how long they were underwater and how long they'd need to decompress on the way back to the surface. Pilots watches could use the bezel for again noting time flown, navigation kinda thing. IE this Heuer of mine from 1967 issued to the German Airforce. Chronograph for elapsed time up to 30 minutes, plus bezel. Others are second time zone markers.

Depends on your budget B, again Seiko wouldn't be a bad choice.

I don't really see the point in owning a watch. I wouldn't jewelry in general so I wouldn't wear one just for show and they're pretty redundant in modern society.
