LoL hit a nerve there apparently. Were you involved in the movie Nacho.

No, but Ethan Hawke is my lover.
I am on boards trying to waste time.

As a great man once said:
We cannot waste time. We can only waste ourselves.

I reckon I'd be one of those staying firmly indoors and in hiding. Or out of the country altogether.

    I'm naturally pretty law-abiding.

In fairness, as Seamus suggests, The Purge was an excellent concept for a movie, just not very well executed.

Basically a Police state allows, with an eye on population control, people to do what they want one night a year. It also keeps the unemployment level at around 1%. They have some rules though: you can't kill certain high level politicians or use weapons above a certain category grade: bazookas etc.

Some would suggest we already allow a certain level of anarchy in society in an effort to keep the economy strong, population down etc. I'm sure those folk will be along any minute now to point out just how :)

I liked the film though, thought it was a little over slated by the critics. The first one at least.

It's a completely ludicrous premise for a movie, word has it the original idea came from a skip out the back of The Syfy Channel. It's like some first year media student was asked to script a cross between Logan's Run and The Stepford Wives, and this is the crap they came up with.

Please don't purge. You both look fine.

In reality, the answer is you and your sister would be better off locked in a cellar for the duration. History tells us that young women do not generally have a fun time in situations of temporary lawlessness.

Nah, you see the premise is fine if you place it correctly. They didn't.

They placed it nine years in the future on the premise that this tradition managed to basically eradicate crime and poverty and inspired religious-like devotion despite having been only introduced as a tradition less than ten years previously. Yet they talked about "new founders" and all sorts of other stuff that don't make sense for such a new idea.

The backstory was too unbelievable, which meant the whole thing was unbelievable, including the characters.

If you want to create something that off-the-wall and suspend your audience's disbelief you basically have to set it in a very alternate universe (like The Hunger Games), or set it so far in the future that you eliminate problem with believability (like Logan's Run).

    Preposterous.

You can't indicate in Grand Theft Auto!

I'd have a smoke in a pub and possibly buy a few cans after 10 o'clock. I miss Ireland the way it used to be.

In the second movie there was a mother and daughter locked in their apartment and they still weren't safe so I'm guessing unless you're ridiculously rich you're screwed either way.

By the end of the movie we were both saying that we'd be hiding up in the mountains or something!

I'd murder all the screenwriters that come up with pathetically stupid ideas for films.

In 12 hours? I'd like to see you try.

Lots and lots of murder probably.

Well, one murder at least. That's probably all I'd be able for in a 24 hour period.
    :(

    It's 12 hours so...

    Attempted murder? Manslaughter?

    I'd sure watch that movie.

Nothing but lock the family safely somewhere. We don't keep within the law because it's the law but because it's the right thing to do. To say you'd steal just because it's not illegal is a poor view of life.

I'd drink straight out of the milk carton, leave the toilet seat up and not thank the bus driver.

I'd ask my boss to pass the sugar. And I wouldn't say 'please'.

The concept was a great one for a movie, could have been brilliant. I'm not sure I'd partake of the chaos in reality, I think the risks would outweigh the benefits. I'd just hole myself up somewhere secret or get the hell outta dodge for the day.

Haha. Like wearing a shirt and tie to work on a Friday.

I like the idea of the film, haven't seen it though, although I've heard from multiple sources that it's a let down.

Realistically I can see myself retreating to a bunker with my family or leaving the country for the duration. I have no desire to hurt other people and no amount of material wealth is worth endangering my family.

Great idea, the 12 hour crime spree...

I'd break into Currys and grab one of those curved tvs and a soundbar...
