repair / service ultegra spd-sl pedals, or just discard?

One of me pedals on my training bike has developed a little "knock" at the top of the pedal stroke. If I take it off the bike there does seem to be a very slight lateral movement of the spindle. In fairness I suppose they have seen a fair amount of miles, but generally speaking - is it possible to service them / repair them / replace bearings or whatever, and would any bike shop entertain such a service request?

Or, like most things, will I just chuck em out and buy replacements? CSS have basic spd-sl's for less than 40 quid and they'd do fine too.

I'm led to believe they can be serviced, I'm gettin a knocking in mine and the guy who does my repairs says the bearings can be renewed - will wait and see, hope they can as expensive to be throwing out..

you can replace the spindle...BUT each spindle is circa €35
from memory SJS in the uk carry them- they carry all shimano parts
the bearings arent loose- its a manufactured unit..
your as far on buying a new set

Bought a pair of 550's for 50 quid to get me going again and to be honest, having installed and used them, I feel like a bit of a chump for having shelled out for ultegra and dura ace pedals in the past. Apart from some claimed weight savings, there's no feckin difference!!

You can get a tool to open them up and service them for just a few euro .
