    45 miles.....

Just 2 more runs this week and I'll be there, can't believe it. Although I have to say I am looking forward to my step-back week!

how about TRR style x days to my next race 'dont look back, you're not going that way' :)

That is a much better way of looking at it, cheers.

Hope this rain clears up for Sunday, my pom poms will get soggy.

Nice one BG. The short doubles are great alright to help increase the mileage. I was advised that as long as they're at least 35 mins in duration they're beneficial to building up the aerobic base.
You're doing a half mara in a few months??? Sorry lost track of your plan for later in the year.

Didn't know that. Yesterday's fell a little short in that case, but good to know for the next double day. Cheers!

    It's ok, I've lost track too :D
Original plan was a half in November but now I'm thinking I'll do the Dublin Half in Sept before going back to the shorter stuff and cross country. Still work in progress. Will see how the base building continues. Envious of your summer 5K and 10K race plans!!:D

Great stuff. Wish I could do the Dublin Half (much prefer racing close to home) but can't do that weekend so have to go to Tullamore.
Exciting to see what you'll manage in the half after your base training! It'll be one for the table no doubt :)

For Some reason I thought there was a half in October. Might have been the Airtricity 1/2 in September. For some reason the count down is showing for me at least as 100 days. Guessing now that that must be the full marathon. :P
Might try and get myself race ready for the half November myself.

Oddly enough I think I'd prefer a smaller race. Swap ya ? :D

I've no idea how it'll go, not sure I'd have the confidence to line up with the 1:40 pacers but loads of time left so will see how training goes. I'll be happy to get to the start line with no injuries and take it from there.

Ha ha we really are polar opposites when it comes to running distances! Gimme a half or a marathon over a 5k any day!

Imo you should definitely feel confident of sub 1:40! And yes lots of lovely training time to go yet :)
As you say though it's all about staying injury free. The race is just the icing on the cake :)

Ha! I posted a reply to BG yesterday saying you'd probably prefer her HM ..then swiftly deleted it after remembering you have one at the end of August.

BG, I will probably join you for a bit of cheering and then go for brunch with my friends after the race. Will drop you a PM about where you'll be on the course. Am keen to meet Singer's Novice-flapjacks at the Airtricity stand too.

    Saturday – Easy

A few easy laps of the park this morning.
    • 5 miles @ 8:49 min/mile (grass, path) incl 6 x 20 sec strides

    Sunday – LSR

Cheerleading duty at the 10K this morning (I think I walked most of the course trying to find elusive Km markers ). Great to witness several PBs and meet up with fellow cheerleaders FD, Laura and Hillsiderunner). Family stuff meant I didn’t get out for my long run until almost 5.30pm. Plan was for 105 mins and I needed to do at least 11.9 miles to make sure of reaching the weekly target of 45.

Route A (Phoenix Park, Canal) had to be ditched because it was getting late and I was advised that the canal wouldn’t be the wisest choice – thank you oh wise ones! Plan B was a revised route involving the Phoenix Park but then had to ditch that when the Garmin died about 2 mins into the run. No choice but to do a naked run, - yikes. The only solution was to head for familiar territory and try to figure out a 12 mile route on the hoof. So, knowing that home to the gym is 1200m, the gym to the Wooden Bridge is 2 miles and the Raheny 5 is, well, 5 miles, I cobbled together a route and hoped that the missing segments would add up to the required total. Surprisingly, especially given the mix of units and my inability to do sums, especially while moving, the route ended up bang on 12 miles with a smidgen to spare :D.
    • 105 mins approx (12.0171 miles*)

*according to gmaps, measured twice, and yes I would have gone out for an OCD jog around the block if there had been a shortfall :o

    TOTAL WEEKLY MILES: 45.1 :D

DAYS SINCE LAST UNTIL NEXT RACE: 43

Nice going with the on-the-fly rerouting. It's amazing how good you can get at judging distances. I find no matter how much I vary the route that it always seems to end at the exact same spot in Fairview Park!

Ah yes, the inner GPS. Or homing instinct ! It was weird though running without any real clue of time or distance. In my pre-Garmin days I would have had the route mapped out in advance and had the phone and stopwatch as back up.

Never thought I'd see the day when 35 miles would be a step back, but here I am :D

My trip to Walkinstown, like many on here it seems, has been cancelled for tonight, but I'm still able to run if I keep on top of things with foam rolling etc. so it's no big. Wishing L a very speedy recovery.

I get to introduce some speed this week in addition to strides, woo hoo, so 2 of my 3 longer runs will involve segments at 1 hour and 2 hour pace respectively :D.

Racing is so last month ;)

Even though it was accidental :o ? I think I'd have to plan a naked run for it to be truly liberating ;). I spent most of the 12 miles worrying that it wasn't going to be 12 miles

:( for you but know you'll be hitting those numbers soon enough. And at faster paces than I can dream of!

I think I've pretty much hit my original log goals now which were to get on the Table, build mileage to 35-40 p/w and be injury free (of course the second I type injury free I'll probably jinx myself...)

    Time for some new goals!

And leave you all without answers to these all important questions ? Never

Did BG ever finish base-building (yawn..) ? Race again ? Do another naked run ? Ever turn up less than 2 hours before start time ? Attempt a 400m TT ? Run away with a fireman ? :pac::pac::pac:

    ... tough choice alright.

    Damn!

Actually, looking at my plan now I think I really should race a 5km this weekend.............

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,355 ✭✭✭Bungy Girl

Time to lay down a few goals for the second half of the year. Goes without saying that I need to stick with the S&C, core, stretching etc. or none of these will happen, but having got on ‘The Table’ and with the mileage building a (so far successful) work in progress, the goals I set at the beginning of the log for 2015 are pretty much under the belt at this stage.

    So, now I’m thinking
    • Dublin Half 19/9 - A Goal 1:39:59, B Goal sub 1:45. Anything under 1:57 will be a PB anyway :o
    • Dublin Novices XC 4/10 – Give this a good bash and not come last :o
    • Jingle Bells 5K 5/12 – sub 21 mins, as close to 20:45 as I can get
    • Fat Turkey 10K – Course PB and if no other aul wans turn up, maybe retain my FVet title :D
    • I also want to give the track mile another go or two to see if I can get close to 5:59 which means finding 15 seconds from somewhere. I think Alsaa will have a few events during the winter season.

A goal in the HM is definitely on. The 5k looks much harder to me (even if it's JB).

Well, my race plan is quite simple - I am going to follow you ;) So if it all goes horribly wrong it's entirely your fault :p. Joking aside, if I do manage to hit the A goal it'll be a 17+ min PB
    Murph_D wrote: »

There's something about JB though, not just that it's a fast course but that it's packed with faster runners who'll drag you along. I'd need to find 20 seconds on last year to make 20:45. A tough ask all right, but I would have thought easier than 17 mins off a half!

Well I didn't mean to imply that either of them would be easy! I've missed the first two sub-100 attempts myself (two back-to-back 1:41:00s in three months, what are the chances? :pac:). It's all about getting the miles in and you're doing that now. You won't be getting a 10-mile race in before the HM, will you? That would be a good indicator. Your sub-80 10 miler was last year too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,272 ✭✭✭Dubgal72

Very do-able I'd say. I did a HM 1:41 in September and 20:33 5k in Jingle Bells. The mile should be there for you, you did 2:51 800m on grass? And the Fat Turkey is your race. You own it ;)

Third time lucky for you so! :D

10 miler was 2012 just before I did my back in so I'd say I'd be a bit quicker now but won't have a chance to do a race before the half. Closest will be a 10K 2 weeks before, not sure if that's much use as a predictor ?

For me the problem with the half is the fear of the unknown in that I've never come close to the required pace for that distance. I've done so many 5Ks they are familiar territory and don't really hold any trepidation for me. The half on the other hand.....

Wow, I'd be following in hallowed footsteps in that case. I'm not worthy :o !

I'm looking forward to giving these a bash. There's some variety in there anyway that'll keep it interesting. See you Sunday :). Unless you're going to the Morton Games in which case I will see you Friday :D.
