Wednesday 15th July Strength, Stretches & foam rolling

Thursday 16th July 7 miles @ 9.40 - singing in the rain :D absolutely LOVED this run, did 2 miles warm up on the track then we were sent out on the road as it was too wet on the track (cinder track, lots of pot holes & puddles  sooner its upgraded the better..) managed to keep a couple of runners in my sights - normally when we go out on the road I'm paddy last & running solo but kept a good steady pace this eve and remembering advice I gave to someone in another thread earlier about running being 80% mental I didn't let the daemons in. Buzzing now :)

Friday 17th July physio was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances () so I was very good and spent the eve foam rolling, stretching etc in an effort to replicate what would have been - Its very difficult to inflict that level of pain on yourself though :D anyway, definitely did some good.

Saturday 18th July spent a very enjoyable morning volunteering at Cabinteely parkrun, great craic and a record number of runners this week. Met Nop also volunteering this week so obviously great minds think alike :). Went off for my own run then 5 miles @ 10.23. Decided to run a route that would take me past the houses I'd lived in over the years, finished up with a lap of the park, very enjoyable and the head was filled with lovely memories :). Followed up with a couple of hours on the beach with the dog.

Have been thinking of doing the Rock n Roll half the Aug bank holiday weekend, decided to definitely go for it (thanks Marthastew!), I wont be expecting anything amazing on the day as I haven't trained for it at all but, I promised myself that as I'm not marathon training I can do whatever races I want to without worrying about upsetting a training plan :) will do a mile extra tomorrows LSR & next week to accommodate that.

Indeed :) Nice to see you.

Great turn-out and lovely morning for it. Per our chat, I changed my own LSR to include the exact Cab parkrun route, this time, at LSR pace tho.. I would probably have been dead last!

Good luck with RnR by the way. Would have done it myself if it wasn't for holidays (first world problem!).

Oh crikey! Fair play to you running the whole route solo! Well done on your longest run to date :) hope your daughter enjoyed the playground too.

Sunday 19th July headed over to Final 10K with the camera to get some pics of clubmates taking part. Spotted aquinn at 1K flying past large numbers of runners :D, missed everyone else though, looked like very large numbers taking part. Jogged back to about 400m from the finish line & much easier to see people here. Bumped into Hillsiderunner, Laura and Bungy Girl - great to see you girls :) and spotted Denis, aquinn, Auld Man King (that was 'us' in case you were thinking 'who were those nutcases') and Anna although we nearly missed her completely - too much chatting!

Headed to the phoenix park then to meet a clubmate for my own run

10 miles @ 10.27 not the best prep for this, should have take some water with me to Fingal so was quite dehydrated on the run and this has got to make the muscles worse right? foot was quite sore around the ankle & achilles and a little on the heal for the last 4 miles so am going to have to find another physio for next week (someone wrap ecoli in cotton wool please!! hope you're not in too much pain ) anyway, job done, soaked the feet in ice cold water and feeling better already.

Well done to everyone who raced today, it was quite warm and there didn't seem to be great support out on the road other than the finish straight.

Total miles for the week 30.5

Thanks for coming out this morning, and I didn't see you at all!!! It was funny to hear the delayed cheering after I passed you :)

not a great idea doing 10 miles without good hydration... the tea rooms near the zoo have free glasses of water, just fyi, in case you are ever feeling thirsty in the park.

Monday 20th July 3 miles @ 10.15 lunchtime run. Managed to get a physio appointment for this eve so quick change of plan, luckily I have some workout gear in the office, very hot though but a nice strong breeze too, all in all very enjoyable.

went to physio no2 (I have 3 on speed dial..) with Achilles issue, bit of an odd one really, Achilles itself didn't feel inflamed or sore to touch but was burning randomly while sitting at my desk or driving the car etc. I thought maybe it was 'on the way' to a serious injury but no, apparently the problem was my back - of course! its obvious really :D. He actually cracked my back like you'd crack a knuckle! oh the relief... He did some mad head thing on me too, I can't remember what it was called - craniosacral therapy? and some dry needling too. Anyway, lots of good news, he was very impressed with the improvement in my strength, core etc (polishes halo :) ) & no immediate danger of serious injury. I have some more foam rolling to do and hopefully no need for a follow up visit.

:D we're all in the same crazy boat here

now if I could just get rid of the pain in my side, which according to google is either appendicitis or kidney stones (neither of which I have time for) all would be hunky dory

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,968 ✭✭✭aquinn

Stop with the google self-diagnosis. Physio sounds great. You didn't ask about pain in side?

    I'm really just posting to prove I'm up-to-date :D

    I know, right.

I've actually had a few shooting pains recently and considered appendix too but still going anyway.
My physio can't crack back, might get list of numbers from you, I've to go to Chiropractor. Jealous of yourself and DG getting it done.
How is Achilles today? You can run ok or need to rest?

no rest required :) everything feels looser today so that's good, will see how the running goes over the week. Have never had my back cracked before - it felt soooooo good I wanted it done again immediately :D will send you on his number but you'll have to cross a county border, you ok with that?

    Tuesday 21st July Track session 5 x 800 + 1 x 1000 1 mile w/u 1 mile c/d

    7th July 3.52, 3.55, 4.00, 3:57, 4:00
    14th July 3:51, 3:53, 3:56, 3:56, 4:00
    21st July 3:50, 3:52, 3:59, 3:54, 4:03, 4:59 (last rep for 1000)

    paces 6.53, 6.52, 6.53, 6.49, 7.20, 6,55

a couple of things to say about this session, firstly I did every rep the others did, secondly, I finished the session with the 1K rep as prescribed despite feeling I had nothing left after the last 800 :) am very happy with that. At the start of the session I was thinking yeah I'll skip one and take a break, I don't feel like pushing it tonight etc etc, then I thought, nope, I'm doing this and I'm going to give it everything I've got. Job done.
